Cupholders

So, I managed to damage one of my cup-holders recently and was loath to spend ££££'s buying a new one, or buying used of Ebay for £40ish each.

Anyway, after a bit of research I realised I could simply swap the front cover out for a new lci cover for quite a lot less. So £29.71 later I have fixed the problem and updated the interior slightly.

Should I be chuffed, or am I just sad?

I should just point out that a small bit of trimming is required on one of the locating pins on the new covers, but it's an easy swap.

I've considered this too to just update the interior a touch. Nice one. I'll check prices with my parts lady.

Update

Hi Again,

Just to expand on this mod...

I've attached a pic of the tab that has to be trimmed off. I used a chisel VERY carefully to remove this 'cross shaped' tab completely. The cover then just pops on to the cup-holder very tightly. I suspect that the reason for this anomaly is that the new covers are for a left hand drive car? I got the info from an American site.

The original black covers come off quite easily, I got them off without any tools, just dug a nail under the corner and popped them off. Easy.

I've also added a pic of the finished job. Small things and all that, but I'm very happy!

If you do attempt this, PLEASE be careful when trimming, I don't want anybody wasting £29.71 on my account!!

Update

I've just had a look at a mates cupholders on a Lci e90. For some reason, the Lci locating pins are the other way round for these covers. That is why I had to trim the tab off. Few days later, they are still solidly in place, so still chuffed/sad.

Anyone have the part numbers for these? Ideally RHD.
And was that £29 for both? Or each?

Hi,

Part numbers are in the first post and I paid £29.71 for the pair with a bit of discount from Halliwell Jones in Warrington.

Looks great! but sorry to hear about the price - I was able to get mine for $7 USD each but I guess it's just a regional price difference.
