I'm guessing you're military, just moved here from Germany? Red turn signals may be illegal overseas, but there are tons of cars with them here in the states. It's legal in all 50 states. If you prefer an amber turn signal, look into Blacklines tail lights or Euro tail lights -- both are OEM.

Correct. In addition, this isn't just state law, but is also a Federal requirement under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 108. No state can waive a FMVSS requirement but they can choose not to enforce it.

Like Viriginia's going to do that.

If you're worried about your turn signals, just do what everybody else does: don't signal.

non-amber (red) rear turn signals should be banned from all cars.

Sure. Tinting your taillights is illegal. Check out FMVSS 108.

Any other questions about lighting?

Whoops - sorry. You wanted to know what to say. How about:

"Damn, it sure took you guys long to bust me."

Everytime i see a red turn signal
i have to wait to see is it really a turn signal or is he breaking with one bad tail light
its been proven amber turn signals are safer
but still the insistance on red
only see it in the states
the rest of the world uses red for stop amber for turn

The US currently allows either red or amber. Many manufacturers continue to use red since we used to require red.

It doesn't make sense to me why manufacturers continue to make red turn signals just for the North American market when they can legally use amber. If they made it standard throughout the world the units would be cheaper, er, less expensive. And less expensive translates to more profit for them since you know damned well they aren't going to pass along the savings to the customer.
