Reliability - 335

A clients car broke down the other week. It's at the dealer getting sorted out so no clues as to what it was, yet.
Having seen info on this forum about stuff that breaks in these cars I thought we go ahead and make a "highly scientific" poll about this subject.

I guess it's up to each and everyone how you would like to classify stuff breaking, but it would be nice not to include wear&tear, like turbo-changes when you've gone stage 3 during 60000 miles.
More stuff like that shouldn't have broken, like HPFP's.

Hello!

Can't you buy insurances that covers most things in the Us, at least the expensive ones?

What has broken?

Cheers!

I'm guessing the ones responding to the poll are more inclined to answer if something actually broke.....with the current answers I really do hope so....

43k and the only thing ever wrong with one HPFP replaced. Take care of the car and it'll take care of you. I've purchased extended warranty through BMW and have nothing to worry about with the car. If it breaks, it gets fixed for $50.

Warranty. Only thing that's secure enough to cover the big shit, and get it fixed by the right people

Dunno about the $50. But I know that is the smartest move to make after 50K.

Garage List
34.5k miles, so far my car's been in for fixes are the fuel system, 1 time HPFP (service history showed previous owner had 1 HPFP recalled @ 18k miles so total of 2 new HPFPs so far), 1 time software reprogram due to SIB (limp mode, misfiring codes), 1 time towed in due to ALL failed injectors (which is 1000 miles after HPFP).... other than the fuel system related, nothing goes wrong yet.... knock on wood..

Re-read, thanks. $50. Have to decide if Extended Maintenance is worth another $2k-3k. Definitely wouldnt want to own the car without warranty. Parts are overpriced, not to mention labor.

lol. more class from the board. when you need something pertaining to:

Maintenance; engine, transmission, and body adjustments; wheel alignment, balancing or rotation; wiper blade inserts; engine drive belts; spark plugs; filters; fuses; all batteries; all hoses and clamps (except air conditioning and power steering); oils, lubricants, fluids, refrigerants and coolants (except as required in the course of a covered repair); brake pads and rotors; brake shoes and drums; manual transmission clutch assemblies; suspension dampers (shock absorbers/strut elements); exhaust systems; tires. Paint; glass; headlamps; bulbs (except instrumentation); mirrors; lenses; body and chassis; body seals and gaskets; interior and exterior trim, moldings, and fasteners; upholstery, headliner, carpeting, floor and trunk mats; convertible top (all components except electronics); air or water leaks; wind or body noises; wheels; damage due to rust, corrosion, or contamination, except as covered by the BMW New Vehicle Rust and Corrosion Perforation Warranty.

or wear and tear, good luck with that $50.

Yep, poor is poorly written....can't find anywhere to edit the poll. Maybe you can't since there's no sense having a poll if you go changing stuff at a later date.

So you're saying that's not covered under BMW extended maintenance program and doesn't required a $50 deductible? I already know the answer to this, but you're amusing. My co-worker who owns an E92 M3 is laughing with me. Please, entertain me...

I was under the impression that this ^ meant that *you* were the one considering the Extended Maintenance. Are you telling the OP that *they* have to decide? I thought you meant you had to decide, since earlier you said that you purchased extended warranty, but not extended maintenance.

Just adding the Extended Warranty (not Maintenance) to the list of reason why getting into this car was a regrettable decision, and dislike the snarky-ness of the board when I'm really just trying to share information, not start fights. If I misread your comments, my apologies.

Dunno about the parts being overpriced, but the labor definitely is. Never made much sense to me, but that's BMW for you
