Not always true...

at least for geico umbrella contract there is specifically a section that covers 'suits not covered by other insurance' which is the key reason to have umbrella coverage from a liability standpoint. adding on to existing coverage is paying for increased limits on the policy, not an umbrella coverage

Do you happen to have a copy of that section?

Not to beat a dead horse Nick, but that policy says it will only provide coverage above the current set limit by the corresponding auto or home insurance. (Look at IV. 4.)

So... if your auto insurance doesn't cover a liability claim during a HPDE, the umbrella will only cover you above your $1 million (or whatever) liability coverage limit on auto policy.

Even then.. there is this language in there.

"15. The use of any motor vehicle or watercraft, other than a sailboat, in preparing for or participating in any official or prearranged speed contest."

That language is so vague that I could see them not covering HPDE as they are pre-arranged... "speed contest" language could be debated.

No great point, I completely hear you about that clause. I don't own vid or timing equipment for that reason.

As stated before physical damage liability isnt as much of a concern as bodily injury liability. Do you have any suggestions on better form of coverage? WSIB and others only insure your own vehicle against damage and IMHO that's the least concerning thing, since itsa big BI judgment that really has the potential to impair cash flow

They make reference to a liability policy on this page but I can't find it in their products section. I guess we would have to call to get details.
