More info when they call you back! I'm interested as well and how does the loaner thing work out?

Please confirm which DME is in the vehicle before ordering. Vehicles produced before 03/2007 will also require an Auxiliary Power Cable, PN 11 12 2 163 614."

Note this is for v2 of the kit, that includes the aux water cooler and larger fan. Interestingly, if you read closely, v1 says it requires option code S840, while v2 requires option code 840. I think this is actually a real difference, sicne when they ran the VIN of my car, v2 of the kit appeared as a valid option, but v1 did not.

About badges/grills: they said that the PPK v1 is the software and a plate to go under your hood. v2 adds the aux water cooler and a larger fan. The "BMW Performance Edition" rear badge and black grills come with the Performance Edition option - I'm not sure this can be added retroactively, but it's definitely different than v1 and v2 of the PPK.
My car (2008 335i) has MSD81 DME, but dealer still had issue reprogramming it. BMW ended up shipping a new pre-programmed MSD81 DME to the my dealer to do the swap.

Had mine done at Global Imports in Atlanta on Friday ($710, tax and loaner car included) and have not had any non-spouse accompanied driving time yet, but initial impressions are that it has a deeper exhaust note and stronger mid-range torque. I didn't realize that the car had much turbo lag until I drove it after the update, as it seems to be gone. I imagine that during the first few days the engine management system has to settle down, so I'll take it out today for a good run to see how it performs.

I did notice a couple of interesting items that could affect maintenance. One, the mileage algorithm that shows when the next service is due dropped from 13,000 miles to 7,000 miles. I currently have around 3,800 on the car. Two, the literature included with the upgrade states that the spark plugs need to be changed at 45,000 miles. They were pretty adamant about the last point, as it was printed in six different languages.

One thing i noticed the day after i had PPK installed is that my oil change is due. i was wondering why so soon. i checked my service record the last time i had oil change was 8200 mile ago. i usually have oil change done around 15,000 miles.

I emailed my CA at the dealership where I ordered my car and had him ask the parts/service guys if they would match the price of another local Atlanta dealer that poster here had used. He dropped down to the $710 figure they quoted and included a loaner.

I was a little concerned, as the service advisor told me that mine was the first car to get the PPK at their dealership, so they were 'learning how' on my car! All is well so far, though...

Getting mine installed on Friday! I have MSD80 so I get the newer MSD81 DME along with the software.

Just FYI folks, they now include an "Installed" price online.

BMW refunded the difference to me after my install.

Just finished my install from BMWIrvine ($800 total) on a 135i with dct - can't really tell much of a difference actually, other than a more linear pull and the power doesn't drop off as early in the RPM range as it did before. The car doesn't feel particularly faster or more responsive.

Sound wise, I am noticing some more burbling from the exhaust when letting off the gas, will post some sound comparisons later. I use a ZoomH1 microphone mounted in trunk right over the exhaust so it picks up the sound really nicely, hopefully it can point out the difference.

I would be interested to know if the DCT is treated as a Manual when it comes to torque figures. Does it get the 17 or 32ftlb of torque?

i wonder what the stage 2 looks like. i heard that you foglamps are removed to allow ducting to the extra radiator. (don;t know if that's true.) i would love to lose the lamps and have a racier duct look.

Just had the PPK with a new DME installed last Friday on Wifey's pre-March 2007 Sedan, automatic tranny.

First impressions are noticeable increase in pull from a stop. And acceleration is much smoother than prior to install. Before install, I always felt like the car was a little rough on acceleration, as if the engine was possibly mis-firing. Now this improvement may be due to the fact that BMW installed new spark plugs as the computer was indicating they needed replacing.

Acceleration for passing is noticeably better. To the point that you have to keep an eye on the speedometer or you're going to have a roadside chat with "The Man".

Unfortunately I have had very little seat time after picking it up from the Braman Motorcars as this is the wife's daily driver. She definitely has noticed and appreciates her birthday present. Hopefully when the rain in South Florida ends this week I'll get a chance to hammer on it a bit.

So far absolutely no regrets for the money spent. However we own it and plan to keep it a while - having purchased an extended warranty and service plan...

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, Did you do stage 1 or stage 2 and did you need a new DME? Thanks, Mark

Mark,

I did the stage 1. And yes I did need a new DME. the car was a pre-March 2007 build and apparently needed the DME replaced.

I didn't feel a need to do the stage 2 as I doubt I'll ever track day the car. Plus, I already had the oil cooler installed and already have black grills...

Anyone in the Atlanta area?

I just called United BMW and they said they I would have to verify that I have the oil cooler installed and to turn my wheel all the way to the left and get out and see if there is a oil cooler installed.

I did that just now and no oil cooler. WTF? I thought the oil cooler was REQUIRED for the PPK Stg 2???? I was only asking him about Stg 1 and asked him (Daniel) three times and he confirmed - yes, you have to have the oil cooler for even Stg 1.

Daniel said: "If you confirm you do NOT have the oil cooler - you are going to have to wait, as BMW is working on a retro-fit oil cooler for your 2011 LCI e90 335i".

(rolling eyes!!)

WTF!!!

What if the $$ from BMW for this PPK goes up by the time they get a "retro-fit" oil cooler for my 335i?? I bet that's what they are going to do - is wait until after the 2011 "sale" is over and then tell me: "Oh yippie, we have that retro-fitted oil cooler ready for you and if you still want the PPK Stg 1, it's now back up to a grand or more".

If that happens BMW will get a nice middle finger from me.

Any suggestions guys - especially the ones in the Atlanta area?? HELP!!!

Thanks,
-WoW

Stage 1 Power Pkg

Got my package installed today. Was looking forward to seeing what the new software could do but traffic was just too heavy : So I'll have to try this out later tonight or tomorrow.

Overall cost for software, labor and tax totaled $740.75.
