Question SF Folks: Help looking for a Chinese restaurant

My girlfriend's family is looking for a good Chinese restaurant (~20 people) for a graduation dinner in San Francisco.

They don't want the small shack restaurants but rather something a little fancier.

Thanks in advance.

Serramonte is in Daly City, not San Francisco.

There's plenty of fancy restaurants in Chinatown that people go to for wedding banquets, formal dinners, etc. etc.

I forget the name though...I know there's Golden Mountain on Broadway but I haven't been there in a long time so I don't know...but there's another one near Grant and Jackson.

Yank Sing in Rincon Center is on the fancier side. Ever since Harbor Village in Embarcadero 4 closed, I feel that fancy Chinese restaurant in SF has become an oxymoron.

Koi Palace is pretty good as well.

I've only attended for wedding ceremonies and noticed that they accomodate well to larger parties. They don't offer the best food, but I highly recommend them for these circumstances.

I agree, that Koi is ideal for dim sum.

San Tung is my favorite Chinese resturaunt. Dried Fried Chicken and Dumplings FTW. But I'm not so sure they can accomodate to such a large party. Give them a call.

san tung is only good for the dry fried chicken imo

hey ken, is your girlfriend willing to go to Milbrae? A lot of good restaurants out there. My dad used to work in Jumbo. Since he's not there anymore, I'd recommend The Kitchen on El Camino Real. They're really big and the food is great!

I'm not sure of Chinese restaurants in San Francisco though... Most of the time, my family just goes to other parts of the bay. Koi Palace isn't that great for dinner... Sunset district has a lot of overpriced ones. Maybe the Chinese restaurant near andy's place in the richmond would work for you though. They place is huge too! I think it's between 17-18th on Geary blvd. Sorry, I don't know the name of it.

I think they would be okay with the surrounding area. Only reason I said SF is because her brother is graduating from SF State. They didn't want to drive all the way back to San Jose for dinner since they'll be hanging out up there already.

Just throw out some names in the surrounding area and I'll look into it.

Thanks guys!

I would say dim sum, same with Koi palace. Although Koi palace has a VERY VERY nice selection of fancy, expensive Chinese delicacy such as sea cucumber, young piglets, etc, all the fancy stuff.

no need to break the wallet on chinese food.

yeah i was browsing around and someone said they spent $100 for 4 people at yank sing on dim sum? good gosh! 4 people would normally run me under $50.
