SES Light ON / Reduced engine power and car whines n shaky when i start???
Hello,
I was wondering if any of you know what's wrong with my car. Car is in Limp Mode with SES light ON, Shaky and alot of Smoke coming out the Exhaust?- Car is stock with no mods exept the aFe intake. I've been driving without a tune for about 4 months now, for no appearent reason just wifey is pregnant and didnt want to take any risks of damagin' the car fully modded. All i have in the car is a aFe Intake But anyway.... I've gotten the .... Engine Malfunction ; Reduced power 4 days ago. turned the car off, then turned it back on and it wont come back on untill the next day again for 4 days now... So today i get both SES Light and Engine Malfunction i went out the car to listen for any noises and you can hear a whine/whistle coming out the car and it smells gassy and seems like some white smoke coming out from the tail pipes n it stinkss and btw the car shakes as well... Any idea of what could possible be happening? I'd really appreciated and please dont give me that SEARCH bs.... Thank' You..

Is there anyway you can get an OBD reader or BT scanner to pull up the codes? You can get an affordable one like this one: http://www.amazon.com/C100-Check-Eng...0519309&sr=8-8. I would recommend removing the intake and see if your problems persist. Can't really pinpoint the issue without doing a little more troubleshooting

Thank's for the Reply, I will try and put my OEM Intake Box in this morning, and will post up if problem still exists, if it does i'm going to check the codes and send it in to the dealer.
I searched E90, and 1 guy had a problem almost similar to mine and he removed his BMS Intake(was too dirty!) and the problem was gone, hope this is the problem with me too, cause my intake does look reallllly dirty and it looks like it lost all the oil....and i only had it for 5k miles or so... Thank's again.

No, not really...Maybe a second longer i would say....
I just got home and tryed it again.... When Car starts, it's into Limp Mode & Also the SES Light is ON, and it blows smoke out of the exhaust pipes like an 18 wheeler & it stinks! Any idea of what it is? Another question.... Like i said car is into Limp Mode and it's shaky with alot of smoke coming out the tail pipes, Should i drive it to the dealer which is like a good 30min drive or should i have it towed there? Thank's!

I didnt even try and drive, i'm too scared of damagin' something, White smoke comes out when i start the car it is very noticable and not normal at all, like i said i did not try and drive due to it being into Limp Mode with SES on and is very shaky...
Should i try and drive it to the dealer? Could i be hurting it more if i drive it?

Sounds like fuel injectors... My car would shake horribly and miss fire like crazy on cold starts until the car was warm... Then it would drive fine. Had the injectors and plugs changed by the dealer and problem went away. The shaking and miss fire is pretty scary though. Just make sure you get them changed soon.

Read codes and possibly clear tuner codes before u take it to dealer. Ask guys in the regional forums for scanning help

White smoke has can be the condensation in the pipes if the car is not being driven and it is cold out, but if you are smelling gas or unburnt gas then you may have some bad injectors and/or coils causing horrible misfires. I am not sure why you are waiting but take it to the dealer and have it towed. No one on here can fix your car over the net that I am aware of.lol would be cool though.

Funny how we are all having the same problems now when the weather is cold. I too get the cold morning shakes and the ses half engine light with white smelly smoke. once I restart the car it would go away and drives fine when the car warms up. I am heading to the dealer on monday. From other post I've read, it sounds like the injectors or coils is the culprit.

I recently had a similar problem, although only the SES light on. It's most likely and fuel injectors causing misfires. It could also be the start of HPFP but that would usually involve long crank starts.
