Platform bed help

Hello everyone,

I've been looking at platform beds but haven't been able to find a good one at a decent price. I found some South Shore ones that are cheap but have bad/decent reviews. The other ones are much, much more expensive.

Can you guys recommend some that are nice around $300 or so? I don't care what brand as long as it's of good quality and is functional. Thank you!

PS- I checked out some beds at Ikea but didn't find anything I like. There were only 1 or 2 that I thought were decent (really simple looking).

I have one of those simple malm beds from ikea. Works fine. And the side drawer thing that attaches to the headboard is pretty clutch.

Around $300?
Malm from Ikea would be the best bet.
You need to go up to $800+ to see some hardwood platform best in nice styles.

Am I the only one who hates platform beds?

Maybe it's just because I'm tall, but I don't like hitting my chin with my knee when I get up to take a piss in the middle of the night.

And yeah, for 3 bills you won't get much pased IKEA I'm afraid.

The classic adage is that you never go cheap on on your bed or your shoes, because you're going to spend most of your time in either one or the other. Find what you want, then buy something of good quality that will last. Just something to consider.

This is very sound advice. Unless, that is, you don't plan on owning the bed frame for the long term.

I picked up the IKEA Malm and nightstands for both sides about a month ago. It has been surprisingly sturdy so far. Not bad at all for ~$350 for everything.

There isn't much too the malm frame. Just 4 sides that bolt together and some slats in the middle. I had one last through college and then I moved it back to the parents house for an extra bedroom. Lasted 3 moves and still going strong after 5+ years. Bought another one when I moved out west.

The only suggestion I have is to make sure you put that little metal x under the slats. Otherwise during some vigorous in bed exercise the slats may rotate and you just might wind up falling through the bed or getting tossed.

As long as it's sturdy. I should have been clear, by cheap I meant flimsy, not necessarily inexpensive. If it will last and is comfortable, it could come from the alley for all I care.

Yeah I've been looking around but like you said the good looking ones are expensive. The ones at Ikea are not bad but I would like for them to be more stylish.

That's true. Then again I don't plan on keep the bed forever. I have a budget because I'm also looking to buy a new mattress. I don't wanna have to shell out $800-1000 for a frame if I don't need to you know? As long as it's somewhat stylish and is sturdy I'm cool with it.

Malm beds survive 3somes....

Actually I remember when I was moving away for college and shopping for furniture I was looking at the malm in a double. I'll never forget my father saying "Get the queen, you'll never fit 2 girls at once in that double". Epic words from a wise man.

+1 - Did you not put it together right? lol
Mine with both nightstands attached to the sides doesn't move at all. It gets plenty of activity but its not always limited to the bed anyways
