Disable NIC (Neutral Idle Control) and Soft (Comfort) Stop SST
I want to disable both of these features. I have 2009 335i AT xdrive.
Can some please confirm these are the correct steps NIC (Neutral Idle Control) Set NIC to nicht_aktiv in EGS module Soft (Comfort) Stop in DSC module Set SST to nicht_aktiv Anything else I need to do or any quirks or prerequisites to be aware of?

Thanks for your input. I'm aware of that and will gladly trade fuel economy for the ability to have a nice smooth take off from a stop. I can't see this feature giving any significant fuel savings. And I'm tuned so I already traded fuel economy for performance a long time ago.

What exactly do these options do?

I have NIC deactivated. It resides in the EGS module. I think it definitely helps to get rid of that lag / dead feeling in the pedal when initially pulling away from a stop of almost coming to a stop (5 mph or less) and then accelerating again. Occasionally I still feel this behavior especially before the car is warmed up but its definitely way less than before I deactivated NIC.
My understanding of soft (comfort stop) is that its supposed to reduce the braking force right before you come to a complete stop to make you stop smoothly without a "jolt". See: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274142 Soft stop is defined as SST (either aktiv or nicht_aktiv). Honestly I don't know that I successfully disabled. It shows up in the big trace file when I read all modules in the car or the whole car. But I'm not sure what module to write it to and I don't want to write the whole car and potentially screw up the other coding I have done. I selected every single module and did a "read ecu" on each module and was unable to find SST in any of the modules. I am xdrive so maybe I don't have that feature available to me?

Disabling the NIC in the EGS does something else too:
As part of a Service Bulletin SI B 24 03 08 issued Jan 2009. SUBJECT E9x, E6x with 6HP19TU - Jolt and Delay when Pulling Away MODEL E90, E92, E93 (335i) with N54 and 6HP19TU from 03/07 E60, E61 (535i) with N54 and 6HP19TU from 03/07 E60 (528i) with N52K and 6HP19TU from 03/07 SITUATION The customer may complain of a delayed engagement and a harsh jolt when accelerating from a stop. The situation occurs only during the engine warm-up phase (cold engine), and cannot be reproduced in the Sport Mode. CAUSE EGS software (unfavorable NIC – Neutral Idle Control) calibration SOLUTION On a customer complaint basis only, check the vehicle's integration level. If the integration level is: On E9x vehicles - E89x-07-06-520 or lower On E6x N54 vehicles - E060-07-09-530 or lower On E60 N52K vehicles – E060-08-03-550 or lower Reprogram and recode the complete vehicle with a current Progman version (target levels are E89x-07- 09-518; E060-08-03-510; and E060-08-09-520, respectively, for E9x, E6x N54 and E6x N52K vehicles). Important Note: The NIC (Neutral Idle Control) feature disengages the torque converter from the transmission when the vehicle is stationary in the Drive position; the service brakes are applied; and the engine is still in the warm- up phase. The NIC function eliminates engine load when vehicle is stopped, reducing fuel consumption. Although the EGS software changes (as listed above) are improving transmission comfort feel while still providing the benefits of the NIC feature, they still may not be acceptable for the most discriminating customers. In such a case, on a customer complaint basis only, deactivate the NIC function by performing the "Converter lockup clutch" retrofit, using the current Progman/ISTA P version. |

I tried disable NIC yesterday in NCS expert, but not working...?
Thats what I did: 1.process EGS. 2.read ecu 3.open FSW_TSW.trc 4.change NIC to nicht_aktiv,save as FSW_TSW.MAN 5.back to NCS expert, F5-coapiReadSgGetFswPsw-show basic function perfect ended 6.SG_CODIEREN 7.coding ended After this, I tried repeat process and read ECU again, saw the NIC in FSW_TSW.TRC still aktive...!! Did I miss something?? |

Thanks for posting this! I just did this coding to my 06 325i and I initially received an error message upon first startup about DSC having an error, but it only came one time and then it was gone after that. The car rolls to a stop so much more predictably and also doesn't lurch forward. It is a very noticeable improvement to make it drive more like any other car I've driven. |
