Some good, some BAAAAD!!!
So on Friday I took my 335 coupe to the local stealership to have the radio programmed to work with the satellite tuner I installed (BMW retrofit kit). Well, they needed my car all day (to do that and some other stuff. Brake pads, warranty work, and the battery cable recall), so they gave me a loaner car. A 2013 BMW 328i sedan with the luxury package. I was excited to try out the new car, but that excitement soon turned to disgust. Here's my brief breakdown:
In two words: it sucks. It's miserable to drive. I'd rather have my girlfriends busted ass e46 325 coupe. The steering is numb. There is absolutely no feel whatsoever. The fake ass steering wheel for the PS3 has more feel and feedback The pedals have no feel in them. Seats were rock hard. Has no power. It turns itself off. Body roll is worse than a fishing trawler during a storm. I think the next season of Deadliest Catch will be filmed in 2013 3 series BMWs. This car honestly made me reconsider owning BMWs in the future if that is the direction they are going. The only way I could manage to drive it is in sport suspension mode (still has too much body roll), Drive-Sport on the transmission, and with DTC and DSC turned off. For my next loaner can I have a Yugo? Thanks. At least when I get a shitty car there I will have been expecting it. Last edited by silversnl; 05-14-2013 at 12:26 PM.. |

lol... your analogies made me laugh.. but u mad? Coming from a 335 of course the decrease in power would disappoint you. I've never driven an F-series, but now I wonder how the E-328 compares to the F-328.
It's too bad too because I like the styling of the new F-cars but I hear nothing but shitty things about the way it feels/drives. |

Although, when you switch the car to sport mode, it turns that feature off. |

I really hope BMW is hearing all this bad feedback so they don't fuck up the 4. An m3/4 might turn out to be the only options in the future. Really depressing.
I want to be a life long BMW guy, but if they're gonna fuck everything up I might have to move to mb or Porsche.

Looks will only get you so far. If all their cars feel like the F30 (328xdrive what I drove), they'll be losing a lot of car enthusiasts.

I had a similar experience. When I brought my e90 in for the recall, they gave me a "luxury line" 2013 328i x-drive as a loaner. It felt very "mushy" compared to mine. I'd like to try out the "sport line" for a fairer comparison (my 328i is 6MT, has the sport package, and is not x-drive).
Cheers! |

Seems to be a lot of generally negative experiences with the new F chassis. Was it like this for the E46 folks when they were loaned a new E90?

So how does it work? When you come to a complete stop with your foot on the brake it shuts off? And then when you take your foot off the brake it comes back on.. ? |

Yes, it's very quick (only in ECO mode, and even then, it's a simple button press to turn it off.)
It still scared the shit out of me in theory, and in practice I hoped I never had to realize that fear [of getting creamed at an intersection for example] during my loaner experience. It struck me as a cheap 4 banger with a decent amount of tech, and a dead driving feel. This car had no soul IMHO. |

It's not as bad as we're making it out to be. It's worse. Like I said, it made me reconsider my options for future vehicular purchases.

My god that start/stop function was awful...
Munich, please learn from your mistakes and don't screw up the 4 series!

BMW is marketing to the non-enthusiasts of the world in order to obtain more market share. They also need to meet Global emission standards. I think they can care less what we enthusiasts think or want.
