do dealership's replace "defective" tires?

i don't have the tire/rim coverage, but i am hoping my dealership will replace (what i think as defective) my front tire. i have about 10k miles on my front tire and just noticed this huge 2" bubble/bulge on the sidewall. this car has not been in any accidents, nor any wheel trauma, so my feeling is the tire must be defective to have such a large bulge after 10k miles.

will the dealership replace, or reimburse me a certain amount to replace, the tire?

if not, should i worry about a bubble on the sidewall of a (OEM) RFT?

You hit a pothole. That's what causes bubbles in the RFTs. You could try but I doubt the defective argument will get you very far at the dealership.

Oh, and get it fixed (replaced) the tire could blow out. Mine turned into a slow puncture, that became a fast puncture which deflated in ~5 days.

Usually a tire place can remove your tire, and see evidence that it got pinched on the inner sidewall from impact, even though it shows nothing on the outside sidewall area.

They will say it is caused by a road hazard and therefore your liability

I think the rule of thumb on the warranty is that if it is caused by an object that is supposed to be there, such as a curb, it is not covered. If it caused by something that is not supposed to be there such as an object in the road, it is covered.

It would seem that pothole would fall into the category of something that is not supposed to be there.

i've had that problem and the dealership wouldn't cover it. that's what sucks about run flats cuz i see that they bubble on the sidewall very easily.

I had 4-5 bubbles in one of my winter tires and Tirerack basically told me to chalk it up.

had a local tire shop look at the bubble and they said its not bad at all, and to just keep an eye on it. its high up on teh sidewall and i don't drive at high speeds so hopefully i will make it through the summer and replace when i mount up my winter set.

Yup, I had a huge bubble after 700 miles. Dealers are dicks, they wont replace it for you, forget about it. Sorry bro

the bubbles are one of the downside of having low-profile run flat tires.

the dealer told me that BMW does not warranty tires for any reason. then i wonder, can we as consumers write to the tire manuafacturers directly and complain or file a class-action lawsuit against Bridgestone (seems like most RFTs are Bridgestones) for allowing such a POS tire be out on the market?

if you get them on a day where all the cars have been running in the showroom and they have been drinking cocktails...then you have a pretty good shot at getting that replace.

if not.

yeah, you know where this is going....

and yes, thats a valid point...if you call the manufacturer, they might do something for you. because in truth... they want you to continue to buy their tires, if you know they stand behind their product, you might buy another set. If they dont honor their tire, you probably wont do business with them anymore...nor should you, whats one fu@king tire to them when they are on all the bmws anyways.

I caught a nail within the first few days of buying my car. now if i got that tire from a tire distributor, a lot of the time...they will cover the tire, part of the warranty OF THE TIRE itself. but because i got it on a car of a dealership, im fu@ked.

ill be writing them about my story and hopefully get a replacement tire, just give em the pitty blah blah blah. if they replace my tire, great...if they dont, regardless, ill be changing to non run flats when my current ones are done.

BMW patched the tire for me and ive been on it for about the last 3oook.
