Jb4 + BEF or Mhd custom tune

I am thinking of getting a fuel it stage 2 so I can run more e85.

I want the vanos tuning and improved timing and the fueling to run more e85. So since I have the Jb4 do I go with a Backend flash or No jb4 and a custom MHD tune

What the difference/ benefit one way or another ?

There is no comparison to a finely tuned MHD car, you don't have most of the nuances of the jb4, the power is much more consistent, and much much smoother. That being said the jb4 app is really nice for logging and gauges as well as the flex fuel sensor reading being integrated. It appears you can have the best of both worlds based on the write-up Terry put out about unplugging the jb4 white plug (verify, been a few days since I read about it) to remove any interference the jb4 has on boost control while running a custom MHD tune. But still leaves the communication interface intact for logging and gauges in the jb4 app.

This is my next step once the new twins arrive. From my experiences in both flash tuned cars and jb4 cars, hands down MHD full control is the winner.

Hope that helps some!

Having a JB4 installed along with one of their BEF maps loaded is like a custom tune only better, because the JB4 as a separate device can adjust the tuning on the fly continuously for current conditions and fuel. It also gives the driver an unprecedented amount of control and data at their fingertips. If you already have a JB4 installed it's a no brainer to load up the free flash map, or the $79 MHD JB4 back end flash map if you don't mind spending a few bucks.

I personally prefer the JB4 + BEF for running e85. You can also get custom BEF maps for you so theres that as well if you arent wanting an off-the-shelf type map, but the BEF off-the-shelf maps are already pretty good and dont need much, if any, tweaking to get them to run right on your car.

The JB4 allows you much more flexibility on e85 mixes in my experience. Using a custom and canned MHD map, I had to use the amount of e85 it is made for, with maybe a 5% variance, or I would start to see issues in the logs. With the JB4, i have been able to vary as much as 10-15% with my e85 mixes without doing anything to the BEF or JB4.

You can do the same with flash only tuning. Its up to the tuner to tune for a specific target or target "range". For example, my E60 maps are not necessarily E60 maps, they are configured to target between E60-E70 range as ethanol content is not always the same.

Here is what I will do, if you get a JB4 + BEF and after you logs and everything are approved with flying colors get with me and I will send you a demo flash only map to compare

This is the only way you're going to learn. People are going to have their own opinion and bias, even me, so it's best for you to expereince it yourself to conclude on your own which one is better in "performance" for your car.

There ya go, ya got nothing to lose other than what you spent on the JB4

I run the Wedge Stage 2+ tune that has tons of timing tweaks and allows me to run E50 with my Stage 2 LPFP. If I put someone in my car and asked them to drive it and tell me whether my car is a V8 or a turbo motor, everyone would say V8. The timing changes down low in the RPM range really make the car less laggy and the car pulls like a well made V8 and not a boost happy turbo car.
I can't speak for the JB4 but since Ken is a personal friend, I would never see any reason to run any other product than the MHD tune from Wedge.

I love my jb4 with the backend flash. The jb4 connect kit alone makes it worth it. Looging via Bluetooth and the gauges all on my phone as well as the ethanol content on my phone is just amazing.

See I'm in a different boat, considering going jb4 because I'm having hardcore WG rattle on every setting with MHD. Borrowed a jb4 for a day, adjusted wgdc and map 10 and got rid of it completely. No WG rattle on stock tune.

My car is going to rattle no matter what

The rattle fix on the jb4 worked when I had stock down pipes but created horrible turbo lag so I didn't use it now that I have downpipe nothing will stop the rattle

It's just the nature of the stock turbos they are going to rattle sooner or later the fix in mhd or jb4 is just a bandaid that has its own downsides

With custom tunes for MHD, will wedge or buraq do multiple revisions depending on mods? Like say I add meth later on, or want to test a few different wgdc to see if they help rattling on the low end

Yes

Its its tuned for how you like it.

Explain to the tuner what your trying to achieve and they will do what they can.

But say 6 months down the road I added method or e85, could they adjust it then, or would I have to pay for another custom tune? Sorry about the thread jack

After you pay for your first map , say for 93 octane and 6 months down the road you want an e85 map , it will cost you 50$ for switching to a different fuel or if you decide to add meth to your 93 octane map it will cost you 50$ . Contact buraQ or wedge , that way you know you're getting the right information

Removed jb4 flashed the e40 mhd tune

I must say well done guys the mhd tune makes jb4 feel like your running a carburetor

The power comes on sooner and the post shift bog makes the car pull smoothly through the gears like it should have from the factory the car pulls like a freight train its so damn fast

The only people still pushing jb4 are the vendors who have them sitting on their shelves. Enough with this ancient piggyback nonsense, Mhd only and let's move forward
