Sorry to go slightly

I am flying to Rome on Saturday and would love to get some great photos, but I'm not much of a photographer.

I have a point and shoot digital camera (Sony 8mp job)

I'd appreciate any advice any of our budding photographers could give that would make use of my (very) limited skills and kit.

Thanks in advance,

Si

Try and get unusual angles - go low/high etc. Don't just stand and shoot what you see right in front of you. Try and use the rule of thirds for photo composition.

Have fun!!

I have to say that you've got some cracking shots with your new camera.

Agree on the rule of thirds. I've been trying to make landscapes 1/3 land and 2/3rd's sky (or vice versa) much more interesting than 50/50.

Unusual angles etc also make a big difference. Also framing like in this pic.

Not much else to say than hasn't been said already.

Lighting, frame, think about the picture you are about to take DO NOT JUST "point and shoot"

Also on a second note learn to use the settings on your camera, play with them see what works best, you'll have your own style, let that shine through.

Photography is art, remember that

Make your photos unique to you.

I can see you've had as much fun viewing that shot as I had producing it, Budgie.

I know the focus could have been sharper but as a beginner trying to get a shot of fast flying Curlew and taken at dusk I was quite pleased with this one...
