Beginning on 9/15, two things will happen:

* Ticket fees will go up substantially

* ISP will "keep" 28% of the fees

State Police will have monetary reason to write tickets very soon.

In the past, ticket revenues have gone into the general fund, so the agency writing the ticket got nothing. e.g., there was no financial incentive to have speed traps and to bust people for 5-10 over.

Recently, the ISP threatened to close several major districts and to lay off some 500+ officers.

I am sure every one of those officers will be very cognizant of the fact that stopping you will keep them employed.

Be wary.

I'll try to find a link, been busy at work. I saw this on the TV news, 2 different stations....

Here's one, this one has a higher percentage going to "the local government." I'll have to see what that means exactly in the case of the ISP. Certainly on the TV report it specifically said 28% to ISP, I have it on Tivo.

it's true, I have a friend in the ISP... used to be on a motorcycle but they took those away because of drastic budget cuts. He said he's pissed now cuz he's stuck in a car all year long and he takes his anger out by writing more tickets.

if you have a good radar and aren't an idiot you should be fine. I mean I do 80-90mph twice a day 4 days a week down i-90 and i RARELY ever see Cops. 294 might be a different story.

There are NEVER cops on I90...I'm cruising at 90 all day on that stretch...I most often see them on 53 and 355

294 had a huge - and I mean huge - laser fest the other day.

ISP D15 on an overpass with laser, 20+ cruisers and bikes handing out prizes...

So, it's not just radar, folks. But I will say I spotted him about a mile out, so I was able to slow down. Later I heard they also had a plane up...

No, it was in the middle of Lake county, northbound.

Tonight driving up to Wisconsin (go Badgers!) *8* separate traffic stops in Lake county, plus 3 squads sitting in the manual lanes of the Waukegan toll plaza. Usually when they do that they're standing at the toll booth looking to see if you're belted.
