Mechatronics sleeve e90 330i DIY?

Has anyone diy'd the mechatronics sleeve replacement for their 2006 330i? The dealer is wanting $700, however parts are only a few bucks. From the realoem diagram it seems easy but I'm unsure about access to the sleeve above the pan.

Plus one, we would also understand an illustration.

It's a sleeve for the electrical connector from the wiring harness to the mechatronics (valvebody in simple terms). The sleeve has an o-ring on it, which over time will wear and start to leak your trans. fluid out.

The repair isn't too hard. The transmission oil pan has to be dropped in order to release the lock clip for the mechatronics sleeve. After that, the sleeve will slide out and just slide the new one in. It does have to be aligned properly though or else it will not lock back in and cause an even bigger leak.

After that you just gotta put the trans. pan back on, torque the bolts, and refill the trans. with the fluid you drained out. Chances are you will need about a liter extra of fluid to fill it back to the proper level

I am fairly mechanically inclined. Just curious..I could understand the $700 quote if they had to drop the trans, but if it's just dropping the pan I don't see why it would be so much. I am certain I could drop the pan and do the work.

Thanks for the responses...I'm off to see if I can source parts and will post some pics of the process. If anyone has anything else to add, please do!

Lovely idea, i heard somebody having the safe defective part as yours. That DIY would definitely help.

Nope, autos only.

I talked with an indy and apparently a lot of the cost is the pan/filter and oil. The pan is running around $225 and the fluid is a bunch too. I might end up going to the indy as he says he has some tranny fluid left from a previous job (new, never used..lol) and would cut me a deal. I'll try to snap some pics.

I wish someone would come up with a metal pan for these transmissions. Indy mech was telling me ZF went to the plastic pans and he has had 3,5,6 and 7 series in his shop replacing the pans due to warpage. On the 6 series the exhaust is fairly close and they will tend to warp every few thousand miles in the Texas heat.

I noticed in the repairs they usually say to reuse the oil. then again at 65k might just be worth it to replace. I think its ridiculous that they use a composite pan on a VERY expensive tranny.... really...

is it the one above your post driller?

I gotta see, it really doesnt look bad other than dropping the pan in the driveway, but i just called an family friend who's done tranny work since i was a kid, and although he works on BMW's he said in this case im better to let the dealer handle it.

No it's a detailed guide by ZF....I have attached it below.

It's pretty involved and will be a pain without access to a lift....however it is doable if you are daring.

EDIT: I just realized this is a guide to replace the whole mechatronic....you just need to replace the seal which is a bit simpler.
