DIY: 335i Exhaust Sound Mod. Better, and even easier than golf tee mod.

Did the mod, really easy stuff. I can hear the louder sound on start up and low revs. It does cause droning on the highway; will give it a few days and see if its going to bug me.

Stock 2008 E90 335i Sport. Definite change in exhaust note during cold start-up and heavy acceleration. Took it for a 100+ mile drive today--no warning lights; no issues. Likes.

This sounds great but has anybody had any problem during emission test? I would love to do it also to my new 335xi, but just concern about harming the engine and failing the emissions. Please let me know If i am over thinking this. Thanks guys

i have had this done on my car for 2 years now approx. No problems to the engine or anything yet. Havent had to do an emission test yet but its so easy that if you are worried you can plug it back in with no problems.

[QUOTE=Bmwnsxr;11183596]Yea It was probably 40 degree. Will that make a difference?[/QUOTE
the mod basically makes your car use both exhaust pipes at start up instead of closing one. So from a cold start your car will sound louder but in general it doesn't really make a big sound difference while driving when the car is warmed up. It isn't a very big difference but its there. |

Any long term issues? I had a 335i and when I did this, I felt as if the reaction of the car slowed down. Just my $0.02. Anyone else?

The dealer will see that you did this (not that they care) but it throws a code with EGR or something like that. Just shows that it is malfunctioning, though you won't have a CEL of any sort.
I actually appreciate the quiet start and if all our cars had this mod done from the factory, I'd be the first to reverse. Maybe I'm getting old :P |
