In terms of price they are very similar & if you want an S54 engine in a Z3M you are looking at much more than a Z4M. I think the Z3M Coupe has already leveled off in the price stakes where as Z4 has yet to level off.

My car has the same engine as the Z4M and i use my car as a daily driver.. Ok so the fuel dont last as long as it would in a diesel or a normal engined car... But if you buy a car with the M sport badge (not just stuck on) and the lovely M sport button, the fuel cost should not enter any ones head as it is going to drink a lot of the Devils Fuel...... i am over the moon with mine......

You have an E46 mate?

I never once have worried about fuel consumption. Just something that doesn't worry me, and I do a fair few miles too!

I was looking at these but was put off by an article in Total BMW mag (Oct '12). Dan Norris from Munich Legends described it as "Snappy, twitchy and uncomfortable... the worst M car ever made".

He described the Z3 M Coupe as a fine car.

I'd never take someone else's opinion on a car like that without trying it myself but it is damning.

They do seem to split opinion alright, some say its a raw thrill machine, others seem to think it has too much under steer and isn't as accomplished as a boxter for example...

Got to sit in one today, I'm 6 foot tall and it was a little snug.....

Rock hard ride... The only people I know that for one, ditched it very quickly.

Suspension more akin to welded springs, it's not a car for UK roads

I dont know????

The 1M is powered by the N4 twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 engine. For the 1M, the turbocharger, exhaust system, and ECU have been revised to produce 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, though up to 369 pound-feet are available temporarily in overboost mode. Redline is found at 7000 rpm.
The engine software tuning was done by BMW race car engineers. It took a very long time to get it just right. From October ’09 to December ’10. Dr. Segler is confident with N54 1M engine reliability.

Do that make sense???

Nothing about a S54

Your car has the 3.0 twin turbocharged N54 engine.

The Z4M has the same 3.2 normally aspirated S54 engine found in the E46 M3.

You might be thinking of the Z4 35is? That shares the tuned N54 engine AFAIK!?

Here is my Z3M. Very special place to be whether you are sitting in it, looking at it or driving. I dont know why it took me so long to get one.

The point about people moving the Z4M's on is valid you see alot of high owner Z4M's with respect to the age of the car. Some cars are keepers and some are I've ticked the box and move on. Thats not to say they are not very tempting package and I think there are a few upgrades to suspension that makes them very good.

You have to try it for yourself but a short test drive may not be enough as I'm sure the Engine will win you over.

Test drive a boxster 987s if you haven't already. Similar money to the z4m but slower.
Lots will take the porker over the z4m. Well worth a look IMHO. I pick one up on Saturday.

Just for the record....

The suspension on my Z4M was not as hard or jiggly than my E70 Motorsport X5. Friend of mine has a Boxster....a little like Nouvelle Cuisine of the 70s era... you admire the food greatly but leave the restaurant still a little hungry. The Z4M on the other hand is like Egon Ronay award winning fish, chips, mushy peas and sticky toffee pudding.....very satisfying, indeed memorable, but not everyday.
