Official waiting for my BMW Thread for May/June 2012 (it begins again!)

Well since my car was totaled, I get to start the obsessive tracking and documenting the journey of the new car from the factory in Germany to delivery in Santa Barbara!

Anyone else stuck waiting for delivery in the next 6 - 8 weeks? Feel free to chime in and commiserate as we struggle though the agonizing wait!

As with my last car I'll be posting up shipping vessel info and posting any details I can gather along with pictures of the ship as she makes her way from europe through the Panama Canal all the way to the west coast of California!

Currently waiting for mine too! It's killing me... currently awaiting transport to port for shipment to the east coast!

I'm hoping I have it in time for my road trip to the beach on 5/26.

Telephone system updated today and my car is in production with a estimated completion date of May 10th

Not bad, this time it only took 2 days to go into production. Sure beats when I ordered the last one in January '08 and the plant closed for a month!

I'll Play too

I ordered a space grey E92 335i Coupe on May 2, 2012. I ordered her from The BMW Store in Cincinnati.

She's on the production line now.

I expect to get the car at the end of June or early July.

Interestingly, the salesman told me I got the last allocation # for the coupe. I'm not sure if this is a global, national or regional thing. The dealer acted like it was significant. It would be neat to get the last one made.

I now understand the purpose of Christmas. It was early training for a BMW wait.

Congrats on your impending rides gentlemen .

P.S.

Mods planned : Add gas.

6-8 weeks is for sissies That's nothing. Do a European Delivery, driving like a bat out fo hell (legally), for a week or two in her birthplace, then wait 8-10 weeks until you can touch her again. That's what true pain is. Other than childbirth I guess...

I put my request to order one of the last E91s in today. Not sure if the dealer will be able to do it, but I am hopeful. I even want to do Euro Delivery. <shrug>

I know super painful waiting, my old '09 328i I had to wait a tad over 3 months to take delivery. But that was during a rainy winter - the weather is great here now, makes not being able to take weekend drives that much worse

Waiting Sucks

I've waited 30 years to buy this car. I've wanted a Bimmer since my early 20's. 8 more weeks won't kill me.

I ended up buying a 335i sedan in 2008 for my wife who drives long distances to work. Of course, that's her car. I don't drive it. I am allowed to wash it.

I am driving a ratty 1996 Ford F150 pickup truck. I lurch, smoke and rattle down the road with a big smile on my face.

My turn is coming.

Regards,

CraigB

Well the LCI runs are only 2 years, so the 2013's will be all new I believe, you may well have the last one.

My production date just slipped to May 11th from May 10th, uggg.

My dreams of a mid June delivery are starting to fade away.

Still learning the lingo, what does LCI mean?

I am sorry to hear your production date slipped. Hopefully, your ship will have good currents, strong tail winds, and a pirate free trip across the Atlantic.

Just joking about pirates. The ships do not venture past the east African coast.

CraigB

LCI = Life Cycle Impulse

It's BMW terminology for facelift.

The e90 Sedans from 2006-2009 are standard then the last 2 years, 2010-2011 have revised taillights, headlights etc... they are referred to as the e90 LCI

the Coupe from 2007-2010 are standard and the 2011-2012 are LCI with the revised headlights, tails, etc...

Not enough coffee and too many brunch refreshments, you are totally correct.

So that said 2013 should be the last year for the e9s LCI.

That makes more sense as we've not seen any new coupe mules spied yet.

Went status 151 today so she's in the Body Shop.

I'm really hoping the timing lines up with a ship that's leaving early next week!

This makes me cautiously optimistic as I ordered mine on April 28th.

I'm starting to think our cars may be sharing a ship.

I have my fingers crossed that our cars stay out of the 'workshop' and do not get marred up in transit. I would hate to get a brand new car that is a repaint.

Now for delivery. There are a few things I am thinking about and have worked with the dealership to insure :

1. My wife's 335i was misaligned on delivery. We found out after damaging tires. This car is going to be racked, checked for alignment, and hard copy provided to me. Alignment and tires are not covered under warranty.

2. The ugly front license plate bracket is not going to be there. I want it in the trunk should I ever resell the car.

3. No dealer stickers or emblems. I do not provide free advertising.

4. The F30's I saw at the dealership had obvious orange peel in the paint. I am expecting a car without orange peel.

5. On a 50k car I get floor mats - and not the rubber ones.

6. The 335i E92 ships with 2 types of tires. I am assured I will have Michelin PS2 ZP tires on her. Stock size.

Once bitten, twice shy. Is there anything else you can think of to add to the list?

Regards,

CraigB

1. You should be good.

2. Just ask them not to mount the front plate holder, they'll leave it off.

3. Also just ask, shouldn't be an issue.

4. Better get ready to be disappointed, your car will have mad orange peel, fact of life with a production car - you want perfect paint, get ready for a re-spray.

5. Depends on the dealer, technically they aren't obligated to give you any mats. But most good dealers will throw them in.

6. Also kinda luck of the draw, it's whatever BMW AG fitted to your car on the production line. If your salesperson promised something specific, hold them to it!
