Yes you really need the cel for other problems that arise. I know already mine will be louder because the rpi gtm is not as humble as the Akra. Alan's does sound good though. That bang in 3rd gear was crazy badazz. Ok it's decided then. Catted for me.

The video of the catted started off great but I thought there would be more video of the exhaust sounds.

Brian, you should go with catted as there is no CEL fix at the moment. Catless is very loud under load especially with a straight pipe like you and Dave have. Catted might be the perfect combo for the RPi GTM in term of noise level for you. Don't forget the GTM is louder than the Akrapovic. I am happy with my setup due to the fact the Akrapovic has a resonator to filter out the drone, which would have driven me nuts. The CEL is annoying but I'm going to try out the Akrapovic delete R today. The Delete-R device plugs into the factory OBD2 port and keeps the check engine light from coming on for the catalyst inefficiency code. Hopefully this work until a tune comes out. Good luck Brian.

Alan your right. This will be a good comparison between the two straight pipes.

Not at idle, I do hear the waste gate, but only when I let off the gas pedal during low speed. Mine is more of a whoosh follow by a mettalic tinny noise.

Pretty much the catless has a sharper tone. It crackles and burble more when you let off the throttle. I haven't heard the catted ones under load, but with the catless, the pops/farts during shifts are more like shotguns. Loudness, I say IMHO the catless is 20% louder. First car in the video is Catted vs second car is catless. They are both Akrapovic.

What wheels are on the Catted version. Just curious

Nothing works at the moment. Go catted if you don't want a CEL.

Catted definitely won't give out a light? What if I go with microcats?

Catted won't give you a CEL. Catless with microcats will not work.

Oh here is the other main part for the catted install; no CEL. I cant drive a 110k car that constantly lights up yellow warnings. It would drive me nuts as I need the CEL for warnings when there really is an issue. The crying wolf would kill me.

This sums up my thoughts as well. A cleaner pre meditated sound so to speak.
I completely agree with this.

Allan is correct guys, the microcats are not working on the US M5s. The catted one has not thrown the CEL.

From what I have seen its a hit or miss with them, it does seem to work on the older cars but not quite as great on the newer vehicles.

My buddy is making a set with built in microcats. I should be installing all by next weekend. I guess I will test it out.
