In defense of SpeadFreak he is only posting what his sources have told him. Its good to have many different sources on these boards. You can choose to agree with any source you believe is correct.

Keep in mind SpeadFreaks sources are at BMW NA while Tines sources are at BMW AG. Arguments can go both ways for which source knows the US market better. But we can all agree having both Tine and Speedfreak giving us info is a good thing.

Unless you have something constructive to contribute I would recommend not bashing others who are nice enough to share their insider information. If you actually have some information you know to be better than Speedfreak or Tine then please speak up and tell us all.

Remeber these lines for a few days:

"To all intent and purpose: The new BMW 3-series Coupe."

"Artists take their inspiration to canvas, ours take theirs to the road."

"Where dynamism and efficiency can now be used in the same sentence."

"Performance without penalty."

Sorry, no pics. But all I can say is:

3.0-liter, six-cylinder, direct injection, turbo charging, 330PS*.

It's almost here ...

There is no certainty as to when BMW NA will announce the new coupe... and provide official photos.

My most reliable sources believe we will see Official US Photos and Specifications of the new coupe in March or April and not until then. We were expecting to see something sooner (late Dec early Jan) because of the Euro market... but don't know for sure. Logically, a Dec/Jan release could hurt the remaining E46 sales... but who says logic has anything to do with the car business.

3.5L I6 NA engine is a HOAX!

By the way: a guy from Roadfly MsgBoards claims the source from BMW NA assured him 335(C)i will be a turbo:

http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forum/e90/725998-1.html

Now tell me, are the people at BMW NA schizophrenic or they just do know nothing - yet?

As I said before BMW AG is still to decide (in early 2006) what to bring to US market at this stage: a turbo or just an upgraded / uptuned 3.0L I6 NA engine.

Speed, there is one HUGE counterargument against you and your source: there hasn't been any 3.5L I6 Na engine developed nor it is not in development at BMW. I know that for sure. Trust me.
I don't trust you.

I believe you and your source are wrong.

I don't believe you know what you are talking about, when it pertains to the US market... PERIOD.

I reported exactly what you and your link from roadfly are saying long before you, and I wasn't the first. For all I know... that's where these people are getting their information. It's exactly the same as what I had already claimed going back many, many months ago. This program was a viable plan that has since been postponed indefinitely.

As I have said... things changed.

You can go round and round all you like. Until I get different information or until there is an official announcement... I will continue to stand my ground.

You and Scott admitted you were wrong once before... now this Peter dude... so who's next?

Do you have Tourettes Syndrome by any chance...?

Thanks... I can only share what I hear and read. I have always been the first one to insist... to be 100% certain... that we wait for the "Official Word" from up above... but of course it's more fun to talk about the scuttlebutt.

The E92 3er coupe press kit distribution is already going on these days.

Automotive media are getting the kit, so do BMW distributors. That means press release is due late next week (#50) or early week #51.

Expect teasers in the automotive press next week.

And remember the lines I've posted in the previous posts!

Especially: 3.0L I6 DI turbo, 330PS.

To Speed:
Maybe that admition I had been wrong was just a tactical move.
And once more: there is NO and will be NO 3.5L I6 NA engine!
US will get either full version 3.0L I6 turbo, detuned 3.0L I6 turbo, or uptuned/upgraded 3.0L I6 NA engine. BMW AG still have to decide (in cooperation with BMW NA). Decision due in early 2006.

As I have said ALL along... I'm no pro on the Euro market... but there is no way in hell that we (US) will be getting an official press packet next week. You folks on the other side of the pond may get one... but I know we won't. Not yet. It's way to soon. We are still taking orders for the E46 coupe.

Take all the rope you want... this show just keeps getting better.

lol this is fun!

Can't wait to see who's right. For me, I'm putting my bets on Speed. What he says and more importantly HOW he says it just makes sense.

Still, if we didn't have you others with conflicting info, this wouldn't be nearly as interesting!

Press release is coming. It is a general global PR, without market specific info and pricing info.

No mention of 3.5L I6 NA engine though.

Haven't seen the pics as yet. The guy has read me text only.

Cool.
This means your source has seen the pics.

(I still think he's the guy who leaked the E90 brochure....)

Correct. He has seen the pics.

Regarding the E90 brochure leak: I'm not the one who leaked it or published it on the net, but I can take some credits for distributing it further over the www before the original source / link was removed from that BMW forum after BMW had intervened. Fortunately too late.

That was an incredible lesson for BMW. Now they are much more careful with such a documents.

To both Tine & Speedfreak:

on a percentage scale, how likely do you think we'll be seeing some kind of upgrade in power next year (2006, 2007 models)

I'd really hate to order my car in April, just to see the 335i come out in September

They both agree 100% on a power upgrade for next year.

The question is just how much & with what.

Both have stated we will have official info by December or January. So you will know exactly/officially what power increases will occur before you place an order in April.

Things changed.

I have agreed all along that the Euro market was likely to still get the Turbo.

BUT NOT THE US MARKET.

Sorry, but your sources don't seem to know the US market. Could BMW change their minds? Sure... anything is possible. But right now the inside word is 3.5L NA engine in the 335i/Ci (310hp) with a slightly tuned 3.0L in the 328i/Ci (235hp) and the M3 with a 4.0L V8 (407hp) w/ 7spd SMG (been saying that since the M5)

Coupe will start production first as an early MY07 in June... with the sedan following in Sept.

We will get a Turbo for MY07... in the X3/X5 3.0di... and that is all.

This is the inside word for BMW of NA.

You can disagree all you like, we will see soon enough what the deal is.
Is this what we've been waiting for???
