Intake for the N55
Hey guys,
I have heard mixed reviews in regards to this subject & havent gotten a response in other threads so im starting my own. Has a conclusion been drawn yet whether or not an intake is beneficial over a drop in filter in all applications (stock, bolt ons, tune etc etc)? I am looking into this & would like some concrete information before I committ to anything. |

no its a waste of money. Im fbo with a drop in. If you like the sound go for it. But no power will be added unless maybe you are FBO + Meth and actually need the extra flow but thats just a guess.
this question is aksed everyweek lol, searrrcccchhhhhhh

I did search & I found a thread which shows it gaining a decent amt of power with the tune hence forth why I asked the question I asked. One thread confirms it makes power and others say it doesnt. I will have FBO & Meth on this car shortly.

i feel you. Buy it and dyno before and after. thats the only way you will know. Who did u hear there were gains from? I have seen one user dyno and he said there was no gains etc. I need to see independent dynos before i buy one

Thank you guys, it was a thread recently that says just installed my intake or something & than there is another thread I seen showing like 10whp gains on stock tune & 20 whp on aftermarket & being im no fool I feel like those numbers were totally bogus but it didnt seem like people were arguing the numbers in the thread. Ill try to find it.

Ya I know thats why I was like wtf. I mean an intake on my evo helped me that much but I was also on a large turbo so that is justifiable. I read this & was like you have to be shitting me sign me up haha but than I read some more and was receiving completely contradicting information. Appreciate you clearing it up! Hopefully a turbo comes out sooner than later so there is an actual benefit to the intake besides the whoosh noise.

i have my injen intake installed last weekend. i bought it for sound. even if the intake would lose me 10whp, i really don't care that much. i have catless dp to make it up lol...
seriously i love the woosh sound and its really loud.

Historically intakes don't really shine on dynos. Seat of the pants difference...it's there but minor. Certainly far from the best bang-for-the-buck mod at $400.
That said, I do have an intake (AFE) and after the DP and tune went on it really woke up the sound of the intake. It does sound really good but ultimately it's up to you. Would I buy it JUST for sound- absolutely not, there's better ways to invest 4 bananas. |

what are ur performance mods evoo?
check out the sticky. performance mods are listed in order. intake has very minimal gains compared to the N54. i'm sure with a larger turbo and intake will make sense. the small turbo is tap'd out. focus on tune and catless dp or for ur XI catless mid pipe. then, fmic and meth. what filter, or CAI were u think'n of?
