Just put on the winter wheels and...
I got Dunlop Wintersport 3D - non runflat. Wow, my car tracks better without the runflats. Nice ride too. Guess I'll start saving my money up for new summer tires - non RFT!
Of interest, my two rear summer tires are almost completely worn out after only 16,000KM. Do you think it's the way I drive? The fronts looked almost new. I got the tire and wheel package from Tiretrends in BC. What a great place to deal with. Got the ASA JH3. Not the prettiest wheels but they'll do just fine. |

RWD car, the rears are naturally going to burn out faster. Ofcourse, laying down the rubber dosen't help either. Does the 335i come from the factory staggered? If not, just move the rears upfront until you can burn off the fronts and buy a set of four.
Personally, I ditched the RFTs a long time ago and love it. My ride actually got SMOOTHER from 16" RFTs to 19" Regulars. How the hell that happened, I don't know. Plus now I have my OEM rims to mount my winters to. Some people carry a spare, but I chose to go with a repair kit. I got a plug kit from Canadian tire, compressor, a bottle of water (with a little antifreeze, to find a hard to find leak), a lighter (I was taught to burn off the excess plug, so it seals up) and a pair of pliers (to pull a nail). In the event of a catastrophic tire failure or a sidewall nail (unlikely, I have VERY lo-pro tires), I can call someone to bring me a tire from home if local or BMW Roadside if I'm long distance. Once I get off my ass, I'll buy some of that tire goop for an emergency where I can't find the leak.

Yes, they're staggered. I'll either have to buy two RFTs, or replace all 4 and see if someone wants to buy the two fronts.
You'd think they'd last more than 16,000KM though... As for not having a spare, I guess I'd get one of those inflator/sealer cans, then depend on roadside assistance. I've had like 1 flat tire in the last 15 years. I'll take my chances. |

Yea, 16,000 is suspiciously low. I'm sitting at 12,000 and although I've split that evenly between two sets of tires, both still have like 95% tread left... I remember reading somewhere on this site about a recall you could possibly be eligible for if you have less than 20k (Miles) on your car. Might want to do some digging and see if it applies to Canada.
I've grown up around a lot of cars (considering the business my family is in), and oddly enough, OEM tires always wear down far too quickly. Take my dad's Impala. Factory tires were almost done at 40k, and now we replace the after market tires every 100k.

Naturally going from runflat to non gives you a much softer ride because of the softer tire sidewalls. Cornering won't be as sharp, however, for the same reason. Fortunately you can offset that by reducing the sidewall height by going to larger wheels but the ride stiffens up accordingly.
Are your tires Bridgestone Potenza 050A? Most high performanace tires like that one, especially OEM, don't last 20,000km so 16,000km isn't bad at all. I believe it is true that OEM tires that come with the car are not the same as retail tires. They tend to wear out faster.

Even 4X4 needs winter tires at low temperature. It may get you going, but when it comes to stopping you are still in a 4Xskate.

Yes, I am familiar with the ski areas. Been to Jackson Hole and Tahoe. Unlike most Americans, us Canadians mostly hold passports and do travel.

16000 is pretty good given the threadwear rating, which I think is a ridiculous 120 or 140? PS2s are I believe 220?

My Bridgestone LM25 winter non-RFT are also very comfortable. I'll just burn out my RFT's during auto-x and dragging next summer then get some good non-RFT tires.

Why don't you get the GS-D3 instead, treadwear rating of 280 I think, and it is better then the Michelin PS2s!!!! Treadwear rating 420 and All Season = Not very performant in Summer, neither in winter.
