Why should we care?
Seriously. I don't think it's any of our business how they spend their money, as long as it's legal. If they were given money as a benefit to buy a vehicle, that would be a different story.

Parts on these vehicles are made all over the world, who cares. Certain parts on our BMWs are made in America.

Wrong forum.
but - what does "American car" mean anymore? Hyundai claims half their cars sold in the US are made in the US. I'm sure Ford/GM/Chrysler use a ton of foreign sourced parts in every vehicle assembled in the US. All car companies are so internationally intertwined, that Hyundai may be more "American" than a Ford.

Just wanted to see some opinions as the guy riding with me got pretty political about it. Makes no difference to me what's on the road and as you said parts are outsourced all over the word...

But to answers OP's question, politician or not, drive whatever kind of car you wish to. It's not like everything else they use is made here either. |

2. Wrong logic - Hyundai is made in USA and many Fords are made outside of USA, so should we all boycott Ford for that? Moreover, everything we buy in stores are mostly made in China and other Asian countries (clothes in Pakistan or Bangladesh, food comes from Mexico and so on). So should we only eat what is grown locally? I'll bet you'll be half naked then, because you won't find lots of clothes made in US only and you'll be hungry and your house/apartment will be missing some appliances, even furniture will be incomplete as lots of materials and fabrics are made outside of US. 3. Imagine we all only buy what is produced locally. Then USA won't sell a single dime worth of goods - because every other country is doing same right - buying only their own local goods. So where this logic will lead world economy? Back to medieval age? That's just one simple step further and this logic fals apart, while in reality things are more complex than that 4. Who cares? I don't think at this point there is a single person left on the face of earth that still thinks that politicians are good/honest, want to help people, want to make world better etc. None of them are. They are ruining country, affecting lives of millions inside and outside US, people are dying because of bad political decisions - the list can go on....So considering all that - who the f$ck really cares cares about what car they drive? it's not like they are going to change something or brand of car they are driving will affect people somehow even the slightest compared to a big picture of what's going on The guy riding with you need to get real |

So, no politician can run anything that uses non-American parts? That means that Jeeps, Chryslers, Dodges, Rams that use the ZF 8HP can be bought... Great logic. Of course, Chrysler minivans are built in Canada anyway...

When John Kasich blasted the OH State Trooper who cited him for not moving over for a stopped trooper with his lights on, he was driving a Toyota Avalon. More importantly, we could ask, why is this guy driving a Toyota Avalon, and thinking that he could run for President? Certainly he can drive a much nicer car than that? For what reason does a public servant need to drive a USA made car? Or rather, do you mean made by a USA company in the USA? Ever been to a UPS employee parking lot? Ever see what these teamsters drive? |

The Toyota Camry is currently the most American made car (highest content). Same for the Tundra, which is built in Texas.
I believe second place is the Honda Accord, with one of Ford's offerings a bit further down the line (Fusion maybe? I forget which).
