Pipes look funny....ANSWERS PLEASE?

So ive had my 2006 BMW 325i sedan for about 3 years now, bought it used, seemed like the previous owner was a dick and didnt know how to take care of his stuff, anyways, long story short, i look at my exhaust pipes this morning and i notice that 1 pipe is a lot darker than the other, im not a mechanical genius but im just wondering if anyone could help me out and tell me what might be the problem before taking it in to get looked at and get money sucked out of my wallet for the obvious, id rather just get the right info and just go for it (FIXING WISE) so any info would be appreciated.

Heres a picture to help.

hmmm that is interesting, you have one single muffler that leads to that dual exit pipe, if you had a n54 twin turbo with split exhaust it could make way more sense due to a leak and etc.

How many miles are on the car? The muffler may just be old now and causing this issue somehow?

If i was you, i'd take more pictures all around and underneath the car, then take a rug and clean the tips equally, then give it a week or so to see if the same side still gets darker faster/first/only.

Wife's X3 is like that. Look at the pipe that is clean and you'll see that it has a valve with a vacuum solenoid, you can open it up with the golf T mod.
