Orange Service engine soon light

This light came on on Friday so I took it to the dealer yesterday and today I was told that it is a faulty O2 sensor and that it'll come in tomorrow... anyone else experience this? Thanks!

An O2 sensor is a fairly normal failure.

happened to me as well just couple days ago, changing mine tomorrow...what code did you get? Is it a front (before cats) one?

I had P0051 code and if I did WOT runs I would also get a P0305 (misfire on cylinder 5)

How many miles on the car do you have?

Hi there... I'm not sure what you mean when you ask what code I got. If you're referring to the system messages... there were none. I checked the info screen and it said all systems okay.

The only visual I got was the orange "Check engine soon" light. Now the SOS lady I spoke to when I first got that light, told me that if the lettering itself changed from orange to red, that I should pull over immediately.

Regarding my mileage, I only have 3600 miles.

What codes are you referring to?

So they replaced the O2 sensor, but today just two days later, the light came on again.

A buddy of mine has a dagnostic machine he plugged into the car and it pulled the code... P2868 I believe. In either case, it said the same thing as before: 02 something, something when decelerating. But when he unplugged the machine, the light went away. Therefore when I took the car back to the dealer they told me that since it was cleared, I have to go back if and when the light comes back.

Should I be worried that in the meantime driving the car could damage anything?

It could be b/c of the gas cap. If you do not hear the click when you close the gas tank after fill ups, the "Check Engine Soon" will come on and will clear itself after a day or two.
