iPod Crackle

This is driving me nuts now. My ipod has turned into a gramophone!

I have a new ipod touch connected to the USB socket via the original ipod cable. But over the last week its started to crackle every now and again. I guess my first port of call is to swap the cable and check it...

Just wondered if anyone has had a similar issue?

Cheers

Try cleaning the audio connector (the 3.5 mm round connector). I had similar crackling and weird audio drop outs. Was a dirty connector. Use a dry cloth to wipe clean.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip - but the cable i use is a USB -> Ipod cable, so the connectors/pins are largely hidden.

I've taken my car to the dealer to try and get to the bottom of the crackle when listening to my ipod.

They contacted me after a couple of hours telling me the problem was fixed - a new (£45) cable was required.

When i went to collect the car, they had added a 'Y cable' claiming this fixed the problem. And on listening to about 3 mins of music - it had. However, the album artwork was now no longer displayed.

So i can use the apple usb cable and have album art and a crackle.... or a lead with no crackle - but no art work.

I would have thought i should be able to have both!! So the car is back with BMW next week to try again.

using a flash drive solves all problems. was using ipod with y cable for a year until the cable became bad and you could hear a good amount of static...put all my songs on a flash drive, hooked it up and got perfect sound quality! all for $15

Paul - what yr is your 320? The BMW iPod cable for the the 2004 and up 3 & 5 series has a USB as well as a 3.5mm stereo male connector this terminates on the other side to a univ iPod connection. That is the 3.5mm connector I was suggesting you clean. Link here: http://www.alpides.com/upfile/pro/2011-6/13744393.jpg.

I am only linking this for the picture - not suggesting you buy from them. I would get the OEM cable from BMW.

Don't know whether you solved this one yet, but just in case.
I had the same issue, drove me crazy. Like you, I wanted to have good sound (no pops) AND cover art. I finally think I solved the problem (touch wood). Just restart your iPod (shut it down completely and boot it up again; I have an iPod Touch) and lo and behold, no more crackles when using the original apple USB cable. Don't know how long this will keep though, but it's working for now. Same songs, same files but no crackles AND cover art :-).
