How to approach neighbour....
We have a c**t who live in our block of flats. Used to drive 120d given by company.
Yesterday, I saw him in shinny white Merc which was white in colour and he was taking the photos of the car when I parked my car. (4ish) My car was parked parallel to kerb (on the passenger side of my car) and his car was parked in the bay parking on my right hand side. I went out to buy some take away last night and arrived approx 8ish. All good and his car was still parked. This morning I rushed to work and did not look at my car. At work, I always park in the corner and usually nobody park on the right side of my car. As I usually park at furthest point. When I left the work, there was black car parked on the right hand side. So when I arrived home, and looked at the car, found this.... And there is no white car in our block of flats. Except that there was one last night. And I am waiting to see if his car has a scratch. And to my surprise his car has not arrived so far whereas usually he is always there by 4-5 pm. Not sure how to approach the guy. Any suggestions.... PS: Do not want to go through the insurance as it will hike my premium. Also it will be my words against his words.

Look for a scrape on his bumper, if it's present, I'd take pictures and approach him. I paid $300 for a bumper repaint after my girl friend did a similar thing to my rear bumper. My motto is, insurance are for those things that ruin your life, not your day.

If it was me, just ask him, when you say a c..t do you mean he is one of those people that thinks he is all billy big bollox... Just tell him you noticed it when you left for work but was in a rush....
See what his reaction is, you will know if he is guilty... If he does not put his hands up... You have three options First... Let it go... Second... Tell him you will call police and advise them he left the scene of an accident without giving details... Say one of ya kids saw him.... He might have stuff he does he don't want police to know about, when police are involved they might want to search his place - he might not want that.... Third... Burn his car..... I had trouble with a prick once, not gonna say what option I took, but never had any trouble after.... |

Thanks guys.
No CCTV. Found his car parked at the same place today. Defo, he has tried to clean it but there are signs of scratches still there. As it was early morning therefore I left a note on his car to contact me. I have no high hopes as he did not leave any notice and cleaned his car. Lets see. Is there any point of reporting it to police? Thanks.

I would say then, if he don't hold his hands up to it you might have to just let it go mate, there is always the possibility he didn't know he did it, that does look like a big beast of a car.
If you do something to his car it might open up a load of crap for you and ya family as he will know 100% it was you - do you need that? These things can escalate rapidly... When I had this sort of problem around my area it was not just me that this guy pi..ed off, so I left it a month or so and then went an got a big bag of those long burning tea light candles, one night I put about 20 round his car, watched him in the morning come out, it was so funny, he was looking around kicking them all over the place scratching his head. Did it two more times when the car was parked in other locations, by all accounts this really freaked him out, sometimes the fear of the unknown is a great weapon.... Lol I always try and turn a negative into a positive, you have been toying with the idea of getting the 1M bumper, this might be the right time to do it.... Hope this helps mate... |

Yes,
This happened to my dad. Police followed it through and threatened court, it was all paid up in the end. As said before, tell the c**t you have a witness and give him the option to pay up first. If not you are going to the police. |

Don't let that bastard get away with it! If he damaged your car he needs to reimburse you for fixing it.

I would say someone came over you this morning and said that they saw his car clip yours when he left, sure enough yours is damaged and did he do it?

FWIW, police didn't give a shit when it happened to me as there was no witnesses and no-one hurt. I had the same thing happen years ago - had my entire drivers door stoved in by some donkey who parked with teh car in full lock. Remembered the car I'd parked next to for some reason, came out of work and found the door buggered and the car parked elsewhere in the car park. Paint exchanges on both vehicles matched colour, height and location. Police station just down the road from the car park didn't give a toss, even when presented with the evidence.

if you don't get anywhere and you are sure it was him leave it a couple of months then hammer his door. your repair will still cost you but at least he wont have got away scot free.

I was going to change it but my M sports bumper would have easily gone for £200-250. No I doubt it. Worst part is that he scratched the side of headlight and its not just a scuff. It is proper scratch and not sure if body shop will be able to polish it. Again, I was going for LCI headlights but was going to sell these xenons to get some of my money back.

Thanks to all of you who suggested your opinions.
Progress: He finally contacted me. Series of lies! He agreed that it was him but he did not realize that he ran into my car. He blamed that its reversing sensor on merc as they only warned him when it was too late. He also stated that I came back to see if there was damage and there was none. Another lie! Anyway to sum up... - Another neighbor warned me that he is not very careful with his driving and his car is mostly in the body shop. - His bmw (118d) is company car given to him which is in body shop as he had accident. And Merc is courtesy car. He does not give a toss to the scratches on the merc and think he can get away with it. - His statement is that if its less than £50 damage, then he will get it sorted out of insurance. Pathetic. - If the damage is more than that, then he will go through his company insurance as he will pay nothing. Now my worries are: 1- Bumper has lost its paint at three different places and it defo full bumper paint job. 2- Headlight is scratched. 3- If I have to go through his insurance, I will have to declare it as no fault claim and it will increase my premium for next 5 year!!! I already have one no fault claim and it is already increasing my premium. And I do not want to have another one. So I guess I will get a quote and see what he says.

Unfortunately its the way of the world.
I had a van drive or 4x4 go into the back of my car just after i had my performance diffuser fitted! Was staying in a hotel for business over night. Ruined my bumper and new diffuser. No witnesses, was in a blind spot so CCTV didn't see it. Cost me the best part of £600 to fix! Now when I stay at any hotel I park like a C*NT under the nearest CCTV camera |

I feel your pain with this one. I've been there.
Its worse when they admit it and still refuse to pay anyway! Then where do you stand? I'm not the type of person to confront anyone - I like an easy life! But it wasn't my car it was my cousins and he's a very intimidating looking guy! (complete wimp and all round nice guy but looks the part!) Once he knocked on the door the guys tone changed dramatically and he paid every single penny for a new rear bumper , boot lid and light. If only I were a little more intimidating, I wouldn't have to be seen as the wimp that calls his big cousin haha |
