M1 North Speed cameras active

Guys just to let you all know that highway agency have activated the speed cameras that work in both national speedlimit and variable speed limit mode in the area M1 jct25 and M1 jct 28. So if anyone happens to be going that side after a short break wont be knowing the same and thought of posting it.

Dont know whether its the right forum to do so. Mods pls do move to the appropriate place

So do we know what they are set at when VSL is disabled? 78?

I've heard rumours the gantries were all set at 90 or something when the VSL was off..

I've 'heard' its national policy to not have fixed cameras on motorways when regular limit applies, only in road works or variable limits.

So when the variable limit is off then there is no camera operation.

But who's going to test that!

Not sure mate...till last week there were 'camera not in use' board and from yday evening i cant see those boards.

Also people are cautiously slowing down at those areas...But there are occasional drivers going at around 90+ but there is no flashing that can be noticed....Its supposed to be working in the same way as in M25 or M42 variable speed limit areas.

Are they fixed site or avaerage speed.
The need for warning signs went out when hypothaction stopped about 2 years ago.

Bugger, signs gone. Only a few of the gantries have the cameras. Bit of a lottery when you don't know if they are turned on or not

Update: its a VSL. The boards have been installed just after jct 25 saying VSL ends there...and a unmarked silver 5-er with a camera installed near to the roof railing also is deployed.

If you are sticking to the limit then you shouldn't have a problem then...

That is 100% correct. Didnt buy a 300 bhp car with the intention of sticking to speed limits though.

These type of signs are frustrating, especially M42 south of Birmingham, can be flashing 50, 60 or 70, with no consistency, slowing down, speeding up, some have cameras, some dont.

M42 South Birmingham are inactive whilst the speed signs are off. Active when signs are on.

I've personally seen the M42 gantry gatso's cameras flash when 100+ was exceeded whilst the speed signs were off.

I'm confused, so they are working when the signs are off?? were you driving the car doing 100+? If you were, did you get a ticket?

I expect they are visible from the opposite carriageway

I see the M25 firing a lot on the opposite side when VSL operating.

However....
Do you actually need a visible light flash now? I would think I/R would work.

I have gone through whilst signs were on and fortunately I was switching lanes as the flash went. No ticket

I also watched some fly through over 100mph and was flashed whilst the speed signs were off.
