30 mph over the speed limit in Florida. Got a ticket!
Has anybody gone through this? I know about the mandatory court appearance, etc. I have had 2 tickets in the past 2 years, which will not help me much in front of the judge. I hired a ticket lawyer, but I would like to hear about the expriences of others.
Thanks |

that's quite a pickle. But you should be able to do traffic school. No? If you have gotten tix in FL and NOT done traffic school, you're either slow, from out of state or new. Just sayin'.
Seriously, that is not a great ticket, but unless reckless driving was checked on it, it's not RD, so...traffic school can help. Give it a look or check out traffic ticket defense in the yellow pages.

In Ohio, plead not guilty at the arraignment. Show up for trial and speak to the prosecutor during the pre-trial. If the officer doesn't show, try to get the case dismissed. If the officer shows, try to plea to a nonmoving violation.
I had a failure to control and speeding recently, and I managed to get the speeding dropped. If you are from Florida, just pay the ticket, the points shouldn't transfer to FL. If you now live in Ohio, change your profile and merge behind the truck. |

That is pretty universal, with some of the Nazi states like Virginia and Ohio being more uptight at the >10 level. Safest thing is to set cruise at 5 or 6 mph over -- the optimistic speedo means you are really only 4mph over. Or at 11-12 over if traffic is moving along at that rate. Never stand out, always be alert for signs of traps. If stopped always be courteous, honest, and repentant for your sins. Keep your hands on the wheel -- so the officer can see them -- and follow directions. It's important to keep a perfect clean record, the last several times I have been stopped I was let off with a warning.

I got a ticket last year for going 14 over. All I did was pay the ticket which wasn't that much, even got a discount for doing the online course they give there. Best part about it is by doing the course the ticket gets removed. Not sure if thats an option for you for going 30 over or if you have already done it but I definitely recommend checking it out! It would definitely look better that you took the course before you showed up in court...

In California you can show up any time before your court date and doing so pretty much ensures the officer will not be present and from what I've heard this guarantees dismissal of the ticket.
This seems like a ridiculous idea to me but it worked for me, I had a ticket for more than triple the speed limit (76 in a 55 but it was a school zone so it was a 25 zone) but I showed up a week early and it was thrown out entirely. Before I get flamed for this I should probably explain it was a wide 3 lane per direction road with a 55 speed limit regularly and there isn't even a school near it, it's a pretty ludicrous school zone if you ask me and the flow of traffic was around 65, they all saw the police speed trap and slowed down and I was fiddling with my radio and got busted. And before anyone says this has anything to do with my car, this was back when I drove a 1991 Mercedes 300E. It's a wonder I've never gotten any tickets in my Bimmers. |
