This is an estimate could be more or less.
Good calculation, but a bit exaggerated I think. The pump will work only 15 minutes, I just read... I personally wouldn't be worried about it. Driving many short distances, for example, would do more damage to a car than few long operation hours at constant speed, at operating temperature etc.

You are actually "exercising", therefore are "warmer" then the passenger who simply sits still. Me and my girlfriend typically have 2 degrees F difference between ourselves.

When she gets in, and uses her set of keys, the temperatures change to her preferred setting (and so does the seat and mirrors).

Anyway, my point is: why don't you leave the setting of the passenger to a different temperature? You're not sitting there! You're side has your temperature. Why worry about a passenger that is not there?
Because the AC system works harder and/or less effectively when trying to maintain two separate temperatures than when keeping the same temperature everywhere, and that becomes more true the greater the disparity. There's no barrier between the driver and passenger side, which means the air between the two will obviously mix, and that's a difficult tendency to fight effectively.

There was actually a pretty funny clip about dual zone climate control on The Simpsons a while back, called The DeBarted.

One of the best features of 2009 and older model!!! Rest is basically redirecting the heat from the engine to the cabin. sometimes even when you leave the car outside for an hour. the residue heat will keep temperature in the car tolerable compared to no REST at all.

my battery must be low - my REST function won't come on. i suspected a low battery over the summer, but i haven't had any long cranks or anything. maybe it's time to replace.

Very possible, the function doest work if the battery voltage drops below 11.5V
