Angry E91 boot & glass problems

Hi All,

Noticed over the last week or so that the boot glass on my E91 was dropping slightly, this morning I discovered that it was dropping quite badly and I then noticed that there was a bold missing from part of the hinge mechanism (passenger side), now I cannot even get the boot open more than a few inches!

I have the bolt which fell out, not sure if it can be inserted back in or not.

I have pics and will upload if there is interest.

I'm not handy with tools so any ideas about costs appreciated.

Thanks

looks like it. I'm not sure you could fix that and may need a new hinge. I'd check realoem to see if you can replace bits of it.

I had the same happen to me a while back and the whole hinge unit had to be replaced.
Don't know if you have the extended warranty, but this was fully covered.
I'll see if I've got the invoice somewhere for unit costs...
Found the invoice. The hinge appears to have the part number B41.62.7.152.675 and costs £70.84
Supplying, removal and painting all came to £307.26!

Back from the garage, no warranty I'm afraid....

2 new hinges ordered (to negate the other one failing another time), they also need painting so an additional cost, plus fitting (3.5 on the job sheet).

This is the first issue" it has given me in the 2 years I've had it and it is a 10 year car so that's how I'm selling it myself.

Hey ho, I see some overtime beckoning!

you're probably better to get the hinges with discount on here and get them fitted by a good bmw approved bodyshop

Haven't got the invoice in front of me, from (my poor) memory something like..
2 hinges @ £140
Painting @ £90
Labour @ £150 (3.5 hours)
plus whatever the VAT is, came to about £500...

Once sorted should be good for another 10+ years?

If i had the time I would have sourced the parts myself and got the garage to do the rest but I wasn't sure if it was repairable or not and needed it sorting ASAP as we're travelling over Xmas and after a week of putting the shopping in the front is wearing thin.

Good job I really like this car isn't it!

Lot of money but screw it,it's a keeper, has to be sorted and it's not something that I'd want to bodge and hope it holds!

All fixed, opening the hatch and boot with the new hinges is night and day compared what it was before, much smoother and easier to open.

Shame it cost me what it did but hey ho!

Recommend Auto Technik in Lutterworth, friendly and professional outfit.
