Nice job, but getting it back on without damaging the gasket is the difficult part.

Well its been back together for a while now, probably put 8000kms on it since the head went back on. No problems!

did you have to remove the cams to get access to the head bolts? What was the torque pattern? Outside in?

That site has every torque spec you'll ever need.

I'm about to tackle this job on my N55/DCT 135i. Previous owner stripped the spark plug thread on cylinder 2 and resulted in a broken spark plug, now the head must come off. SMH

Any advice you would recommend?

Sorry to revive this old thread, but about how many hours is pulling the head while in the car? I'm going to have to pull my head off, E92 N55, and see why my motor is measuring 0psi compression on all cylinders

I responded to your other thread, you probably need a new motor if the pistons are damaged from hitting the valves.

Do you have to pull injectors to remove the head?

Also, any chance you have a parts list compiled of all the necessary gaskets, orings, seals, etc?

Deeply interested in this as I think I need to pull the head off the N55 in my Daughters X3 to replace a connecting rod that's hogged out from a spun rod bearing. Please post more details as to the process. I've done this type of work on older cars, just not a BMW with all it's specialties.

Broken135i. good job. You are the only one I found online who pulled head while leaving the block in. I am doing the same but on a 535i F10 chassis. Everything seems obvious except the brass nuts on the exhaust manifold. Top row is accessible from top but how did you remove the bottom row (especially the front ones) ? Did you remove the cat (hence engine mount and its bracket) to get access? Coolant hard pipe too? They are M10 hex or T50 torx. I have all the extensions and swivels but I don't see access unless I remove everything underneath. Please help.
