My morning at MIJ Exhaust

I have always thought the single twin tail pipes on my 335D were too small in diameter compared to the cut outs in the bumper. I looked into the DiMisa/CYBA tips but the cost to import them over/tax/duties/VAT etc put me off. I did not want to go down the road of having a new wxhaust system but just wanted the tail pipes to look "meat'ier" (if you know what I mean)

When I read 1SH's thread I googled the company and came across on their website 4" straight tail pipes. So I gave them a call and went down there this morning. I dealt with a brilliant guy called Andrew who got my car onto the ramps, discussed what I wanted, he put a couple of tail pipes on (slashed and straight cut), he gave me his view and we both came to conclusion of straight cut.

The guys started work on the car about 9.15am and was done by 10.25am and the service was great. I would definatly reccomend MIJ exhausts (based in Walsal) and from what I saw today there was 5/6 ramps and all were rammed.

Overall I am over the moon as they look oem to me, they dont protrude out too much (this was one of my main concern when I discussed with Andrew that I did not want them to stick out) But he reassured me that they would weld them on with it couple mm sticking out to give its prescence.

Anyway I only managed to take a couple of snaps, I will take better ones tommorow on my camera (excuse the dirty car)

After

Very good price, and nice effect

When I remove the Bastuck eventually I may get them to do quads to fill my larger apertures.

Thanks for the review.

Good choice, a car of this performance should have been finished like this from the factory.

I got mine done at the same place as the OP about half an hour later. My car has a full aftermarket exhaust from the turbos back but the tips on the Borla exhaust weren't very nice. I didn't take any pictures but they were very similar to the originals but only very slightly bigger. The other issue was that like all aftermarket exhausts the tips sat far too low. The new tips being larger sit closer to the diffuser and look far more aggressive.

The bracket on my exhaust needs adjusting slightly as the driver's side is about 5mm lower than the other side. Unfortunately I was in a rush so couldn't get it adjusted but since the engine is coming out in two weeks, I'll get it sorted then. I did a fair few miles yesterday and my car is burning oil so the tips blackened up a bit.

Standard:

4" tips:

Sorry

looking Good there Idnan, sorry I missed you but I had to shoot off. Was there a grey BMW X5 (I think or X3) still on the ramps there?

No worries pal, you were in a rush anyway. The grey x5 was still there for most of the time I wa there, my car was on the ramp next to it I think. Mine took about double the time yours did and it was very busy and a few people were moaning/

Mine went well except for the bellend who had the Mercedes CL500 who was getting a custom exhaust from there who wanted to race me and was right up arse despite the roads being busy.

Haha I was a bit annoyed when I turned up because on Thursday I spoke to someone and I aksed what time do you open and he said 8am but lads get there 8.30/9. I said no problems I will be there for 8.15 so we can discuss whats what and can start bang on 9am. I phoned up Friday to confirm and spoke to someone else and they said we dont open till 9am and no point bringing it early. I turn up at 8.45am and all ramps full, guys working on most of the cars. But the service from Andrew made up for it

When I was there, there was a CL at the far side, then yellow renault, mine, grey x5, astra and a red pug. I was sitting in the waiting area and the x5 owner and missus were having a little bit of a with her saying to him about the design of the system lol

I did like the food caravan with a wide range of food even indian food lol

Cool.

How do they properly weld on the unreachable top side of the exhaust from underneath?

Do they cut off the old tip, tack weld the new one in place, then drop the system to weld it right round?

I am not sure how they welded the top part as I was having my breakfast in the cafe. I have taken some pics of underside, Welding is not my strong point so I dont know if this is good welding or not?

It's stuck together isnt it? Not the prettiest I've seen..

Its hard to weld exhaust if it's still fitted and more difficult to clean the surface etc.
