Wish they would ban guns

But most importantly stop hyping gun crime

I saw a documentary that showed when gun crime was hyped all over the news it lead to much higher gun crime. They compared gun crime to a Canadian city, 20 mins over the river somewhere north of New York and with Canadian press and attitudes to gun crime meant they had only 2 deaths in 15 years, 1 of them was a shooting from an American crossing the border. In the American city over the river there were hundreds of deaths in 15 years.

I think the Americans push a policy of fear and state protection which funds massive multi billion dollar defence industries. These violent tragedies are I think part of the problem from their attitudes

Like other poster said, war, violence and force isn't the answer

Rip so sad!

Very sad.

You will never convince Americans to give up their guns. It really is that important to them even when you keep getting shocking events like this.

They do love the 2nd amendment over there, about time they realised this will continue to happen when there are almost as many crazy sick bastards as guns over there!

Yeah but guns don't kill ppl. Removing guns from America does not solve the problem. Has to be more complex than that.

Very sad news.

Thoughts and deepest sympathies go to all the families.

In my opinion there is just no good reason for anyone in a civilised society to own a semi automatic weapon.

Obv sympathy goes to affected families of this tragedy.
But knee-jerk reaction to ban guns won't solve this problem.
99.999% of gun owning population I the states are stand-up, sensible people exercising nothing more than their constitutional rights. The sick MF's that carry out these crimes would do the same with a gun, cricket bat or frozen leg of lamb - the tool they use to commit atrocity is unimportant.

The same happened here; have a friend whose dad shot at an Olympic level. He (legally) owned a number of handguns, made his own ammunition etc. stand up guy, passed all checks etc. hand gun ban came in, meant he had to give up his (valuable) property and, ultimately, his sport.

Did that law stop the wrong people getting hold of guns? Of course not. All it did was take them out of the hands of registered, law-obiding citizens. The yardies and scumbags are still running around with Uzis, because they were never registered in the first place.

Sheps,

So does that mean that the USA is a sicker and more unbalanced society than anywhere else on Earth? That they have a higher proportion of unbalanced, stone cold killers than we do? Or Canada just over the border? The fact that they have millions of registered and unregistered firearms has nothing to do with the gun crime statistics in the USA?

Sympathies to the families,no parent should have to bury their child.

Crocodile tears from a pathetic excuse of a man who calls himself president, ironic that he wages a 24/7 war on so called terrorists abroad, ordering drone strikes on innocent civilians and kids( where is the "I say this as parent...." Speech then) yet the real terrorists, lunatics and psychos are closer to home.

Call this how you like yet I hate the fact that in places all over the world innocent kids get murdered killed by big numbers yet no one takes notice or gives a shit, yet as soon as its Here or the U.S it's crime of the century.

Just in disbelief tbh.

Wish people would get help when they start even considering shit like this. Sad thing is though that they probably wouldn't have the nous too.

Once again RIP.

I could go crazy thinking about that.

And anyone who doesn't think that gun control reduces the risk of this happening is frankly deluded.

banning guns is not the answer. the lefities in this country banned had guns but that didn't stop the villains getting hold of machine guns and pretty much anything else they want including hand grenades. all the ban did was to deprive law abiding people like myself from having a harmless hobby. you will always get nutters like this bloke who will find a way to carry out awful crimes one way or another. the bloke who just recently mowed people down with his van is a typical example.

I completely disagree if you think that is the sole determining factor.

Back it up AP. Not having a go. I just believe that tight gun control lowers gun crime. I'm willing to listen to arguments to the contrary.

Yes there will always be guns. We can't magic them out of existence. And yes, bad guys will always get hold of them. But as things are here in the UK I don't worry about gun crime. I can walk down the street at any time day or night and someone appearing with a gun is not something I have to give any thought to. Sure there are parts of the country where it's an issue but that worry is infinitesimal compared to a similar neighbourhood in the US. The bad guys have guns, the not so bad guys have guns, the people who are afraid of the bad guys have guns, all the police have guns. I know which system I prefer. We still point at aeroplanes in Sheffield. We also point at police with guns. I like it like that and I hope it never changes.

:edit:

Actually I'm not sure if you agree with gun control or not AP. You're reply is brief!

Just look at the facts. We've got just as many nutters, Goths, tech-geeks, Vegetarians (all suspects according to the Daily Mail) as the USA but 12000 people did not die in the UK last year from gun inflicted injuries. The major difference between the US And the UK is the number of guns in circulation.

Ok ok, the reply was brief, Allow me to expand.

The reason for being brief is simply because that was the only logical and valid response to put when commenting on something like this.

Its not about agreeing or disagreeing, as this is not a switch. I believe, firmly, that ppl ( not you guys just generally speaking here) who simply say, yes lets ban guns and that the solution. To me thats akin to giving paracetamol to someone who has a broken leg. Yes it may help but its not the solution is it?

Lets take 2 seperate cases:

1.Switzerland. Where i believe ( dont quote me as I may be wrong) almost every male has to own a gun. a requirement. Yet the gun crime? Statistics?
Are their even any statistics?
Switzerland guys, a place which has the third highest guns per capita in the world. ( U.S being first)

Whats the argument here? how does the response "lets take away their guns" even apply to this situation?

2. Mexico. A place where Guns are not allowed to be carried by members of the public. So much so that U.S citizens are often caught out by forgetting they are not allowed to carry guns. Fined/punished accordingly.

Yet gun crime is rife there.

We could bang out statistics all night long if we all wanted to.

The point I am trying to make is simple. There are more factors to consider when it comes to America. Many of which can be discussed, some of which we will never know.

But what is for sure is that simply saying removing guns from America is not a solution.

Guns do not kill people. People kill People.
