I think most of us have 1000W (2x 500W), but I'd have to go back and check the specs on mine. That said, of the two choices you list, the 500W looks better to me. It's heavier and looks more solidly built. Also, it doesn't look like you can swivel the other one's lights to point down, which you'll probably want to do from time to time.

I use dual 500w. Sears usually has some nice ones in the $30 - $50 range.

Definitely should help show the imperfections in the paint.

Let us know what one you end up with and what you think.

i have the husky ones from home depot, and i'd avoid them next time

i've had so many little functional issues with them
