Network Engineer by day, but really it boils down to the fact that everyone has their own vices. I don't drink or smoke (save for a nice glass of expensive Scotch once in a rare while), but my girlfriend does. She gave me shit for buying such an expensive car until I pointed out that she spends as much on booze and cigarettes as I do on my car payment.

No gf/wife, no kids, good salary out of college... very doable. Half of my former classmates are super eager to get hitched, have kids... I don't get the rush. Enjoy your 20's, save and invest wisely, but also spoil yourself with a fun machine!

These cars also aren't particularly expensive. Clean, late model, fully optioned 335's are in the mid $30k range. Sure, it's not cheap, but lots of run of the mill cars go for that price new.

+1 doesn't really matter how much you make or what you do, it all comes down to how you spend your money and how you save money.

Anyone with a decent job and some expendable income can afford to buy a 3 series and mod it lol

If you need to ask this question, most likely (I hope!) you can afford the mods but cannot justify spending so much on them.

It was easier for me to buy another car than to justify mods to the wife.

This is me. Now that I'm getting married it's hard to justify something that I don't need. But I can afford them. So +1 for the guys with no gf or kids.
