Snows in No. Va. Pay Off

While it was not a major snow storm today, having RFT snows on E92 in No. Va. today, particularly this evening, were great. The news tonight showed a variety of disabled cars; one 3 having to be pushed around a turn b/c it had no traction. If I recall, a couple of posters previously scoffed at the utility of snows in No. Va.

If you didn't have snows on in No. Va. or Northeast today, how was the drive?

Do you have a i or xi? I am still up in the air as to what I am going to order. I live in NoVA and this was a very slippery snow. Even for my Subaru, I didn't have any problems, but I could tell it was very slippery in the turns. I am just on all seasons though. This weekend I am actually picking up snow tires for my Miata should be interesting the next time it snows. I am thinking if my miata has snow tires maybe just stick with a 335i as I won't need to drive it in the bad stuff.

I just got home from Fairfax, i saw a car spun out and went into my onramp...

He was exiting on the other side and spun and then his car went into my onramp...scary as shit, i didn't see it happen but i went around a corner and saw half his car sticking over the median...

I was on my summer RFTs, just took it slow, and got home safe...side streets are all frozen, and they haven't plowed jack

I work in McLean and I dont have the all season tires and I couldn't move at all. I got stuck in the middle of the road right outside my building. my car was parked in a parking garage all day exposed to the outside so maybe the water on them froze? ended up using bmw roadside assistance to tow me to a main road and was fine from there. funny how a car with cold weather package doesn't come with all season tires. I dont know if I should buy some reasonably priced all season tires or tire chains, can anyone offer me some advice?? anyway, today was just a horrible experience from the start, 3 hours to get to work then stuck after work till 9:30. Saw a 325i slipping around also. Only good part was doing insane donuts in a freshly cleared parkinglot with the traction control off

Get some good winter if you have the summers on for the warmer weather.

I just switched out my summer wheels today (pics on p3 of that thread). I was going to wait longer, but I have to drive the E90 tomorrow and don't want to do it on the summer tires. For today's commute, I drove our minivan.

Do you have a i or xi?

I have an i. I was seriously considering waiting for an E92 xi coupe when I put my order in last April. However, I was told that I might not get an 08 until December.

The i was pretty good on the roads yesterday and today. The xi with snows must be on a much higher level. Frankly, I was pretty impressed with the 328xi coupe that I test drove last March. I don't think that I would be disappointed with a 335xi coupe but I really enjoy the i.

Try them both and see what appeals to you. If you are going to travel further North or go skiing in W. Va or Pa., the xi might be the best choice.

Good luck.

Summer runflats got me home safely, driving slowly. Even got me up the steep driveway, with DSC off (DTC on) slowly melting the thin snow layer and inching my way up...
