I've haven't got the replacement yet. The cheapest quote so far is ~$2400, probably get it done by next week in KungTong.

Hitag is good, it works perfect. Can buy a blank remote on ebay and have it programmed to your car. I've done it myself before.
This was on my 323i... haven't tried on the M3.

I've beening try asking those Shenzhen electronic shops to duplicate the keys, they all said it cannot be done without the black box underneath the ignition switch.
How does your Hitag do it?

Anyone knows if there is a shop can cut the metal key? If yes, I think I will give hitag2 a try.

Just found out that no one (except stealer) can make a new key with comfort access. Did your car have this feature?

How does your Hitag do it?
He is right, the Hitag2 won't work after some research. All it can do is just copy the info from one key to another, it can't tell your car to recognize the NEW key or to replace your lost key. May need some other OBDII device to do it.

No, I don't think my car has that feature. From the internet, I've seen something that connects to the OBD and write a spare key. Any ching can chime in on that?

I that case it is easier for you to make a new key. I am learning on how to do it but there is tons of reading.
Anyways, I'll try mine first and keep y'all posted.

Maybe this works - BMW AD - Scan the dump via OBD, then write the new key.

The theory is right. But did anyone had tried this before?

Many had suggested AK400 but it is pricey.
