The technivorm is a great drip maker but when shit hits the fan I rather spend $20 on a presspot. I use some crap built in grinder for my morning brew but espressso gets a bit more finesse.

well it's sold elsewhere. that was just the quickest site i knew i could find it at.

i don't make enough coffee to care but they make way too much and love it. otherwise i could care less

I do like that store though. i can at least contain myself to not pull the trigger on the expensive lasagna pan or the awesome la cruset pans or the.....nearly whole store. my weakness is I'm close to pulling the trigger on orbit knives. do want those bad.

As sort of an update...

We actually got this one:

Breville BES820XL

We found it on deep clearance at Williams-Sonoma and it has been working great since we got it. We tried the ground Caribou espresso and it was alright. Then we tried a local roaster called Lake Erie Island and its was much smoother, creamier, and better. I'm enjoying the milk frother too.

I generally suggest buying espresso makers from companies that make espresso makers, not toasters.

I use a Keurig Platinum/Pro machine. The coffee is definitely not the best I've had, but it will suffice due to the per cup costs being cheap. It's also extremely quick. The tea it brews is great. Works for me overall.

Yes, and they also make ovens, fryers, space heaters, etc. The espresso's from those are not that good though.

I approve of a quality vs money vs time relationship and knowing what your getting

I bet all their devices produce the same quality coffee.

You are kidding right?

Jura and Saeco are presently the best coffee machines (for every type of coffee) on the market. For home purpose obv.

I mean, sure, if by that you mean mass produced sold at every store just good enough to make coffee and take home and look like a coffee maker? Sure. But sir, you are talking about low end consumer coffee makers. I dont call what comes out of any automatic machine "espresso" and I wouldn't call a machine that cant make microfoam a worthwhile machine.

I am going to have to not so politely disagree with whatever you read on the internet as we are not talking about overpriced machines pushed out to consumers that offer the best ease of use and almost drinkable brew, we are talking about actual espresso machines. For home use.

As stated earlier, a semi-auto single boiler machine like the gaggia classic is an OK starting point and really about as long as one should go while the Rancilli Silvia is a great starting point and will keep you satisfied to years.

You talking about those brands is the equivalent of coming to a stereo thread and suggesting some discount 5.1 systems that come pre-assembled while others are talking about assembling components. While they may both play music, one is much superior.

No, never heard of them. That doesn't mean they are bad though. There are thousands upon thousands of cafes out there. Could be good. The last place I lived had 3 cafes that were within a few minutes of each other. 1 was owned by a famous barista who pretty much, and literally, wrote the barista book. The second was just a little woodsy/artsy spot who used some other companies beans that I haven't heard of and the third was a small artsy lodge, slightly on the upscale side, that lived by that barista handbook and roasted their own beans. At the end of the day, I found the best coffee at the least coffee obsessed shop, but I dont doubt that a large part of that had to do with their 4 group Synesso machine which is pretty much the Zonda of machines. So a great machine or great beans wont necessarily make a place great. The place that roasted their own beans were pretty on and off when it came to quality. I had a friend back in the area there that they would consult about roasting. That man roasted some of the most epic beans I've ever tasted.

The only way to see what you like is to go try it. I would suggest a ristretto to really see what they've got. I personally dont think anything should be added to great espresso as the crema and drink it self should have an underlying sweetness.
