Yet another newbie
Hi all, I'm new to the forum and BMW.
I've had the 320d for two months now and am suitably impressed and very glad I made the leap to BMW, though I must say it was my wifes choice. I at first wanted an IS250 but am now very much a fan of the 320d the power and handling are amazing, though I'm getting nowhere near the published fuel consumption figures by BMW - 6litres\100km. I'm getting 8.3, probably not helped by having fun with the new car and carrying extra baggage (a wife and two kids) http://www.e90post.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif While I'm here I'd like to ask if anyone buying a new 320i\d has had problems regarding the version 14 sat nav disc. I picked up the new car without any disc and was told by the dealer that the new version 14 was coming and he would post it to me. Six weeks later still no disc, the dealer said there was nothing they could do as they were waiting for the discs from BMW Australia. So I rang BMW Australia and was told that they couldn't get the version 14 Sensis maps to work in the hardware used by my model. They advised me that they had now scrapped trying to get version 14 to work and therefore version 13 was still the current version for my car url]http://www.e90post.com/forums/images/smilies/mad0260.gif[/url] So I've paid full price for what is essentially a 2006 Refidex! Sorry to start my 1st post with a gripe, just wanted to know if anyone else had experience of this? Will post some pics when I learn how |

Welcome newbie. In regards to version 14 nav disc there shouldn't be any problems as i was given it 3 weeks ago when i picked up my car at BMW Sydney (aka BMW AUS). I know your located in Brissy but give BMW Sydney a ring and have a chat with there accessories guy (Luke) he should be able to help you.

Mully,
I'm in lovely Bris Vegas, picked up my car 3-4 weeks ago with disc 14, I've had no probs. You'd think all the recent 3 series would have the same hardware (computer/OS) running - doesn't make sense to me. T

Sounds like you are being given the run around with your Sat Nav disc. The disc for the E90/91/92/93 is Purple not Green and as others have stated, version 14 works in E9x models. I'd doubt that your car has different Sat Nav software than every other E9x in the country |

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Further on the sat nav issue, this is the blurb from the BMW website: http://www.bmw.com.au/scripts/main.asp?PageID=23520 "----You can also visit the Where Is website, www.poweredby.whereis.com, for information on the digital maps contained on your Satellite Navigation System Version 14 disc. Please note that one of the three Satelittle Navigation Version 14 disc upgrades is yet to arrive in Australia. The models that require this disc for the Version 14 upgrade are E87 1 Series, E90 3 Series and E60 5 Series. However, this disc can still be ordered through your BMW Dealership and you will be advised when it arrives in Australia". My understanding is that the 6 cylinder models are made in Germany and the 4 cylinder ones are made in South Africa and a variety of hardware is used depending on the model. The 320d apparently uses Harmanbecker (don't know if i have spelt it right) hardware and the problem lies with all models using this hardware. I have talked to the head tech guy in BMW Australia so I don't doubt that version 14 does not work in my model. I would have been happier though if there was an offer by BMW of a free copy of the next available version. Too much to expect I suppose! |
