I wasn't a big fan of the laser jammers that come with the 9500CI.

However, I have seen some awesome installations with the 9500CI where they put the LED readout in the rear view mirror.

I currently have the 9500xi and Laser Interceptors. Saved me from 3 times so far

The radar reciever on the ci is awesome if mounted properly (not obstructed) the ZR4 "lazer shifters" used to be crap but I have heard a stray good report on them recently. I personally would stay away from them when Laser Interceptors and the new Blinder 905's are far superior.

Why the need for custom install? Don't want anyone to see it or drive through VA where RD's are illegal?

ive done a recent install of the beltronics stir+ into the rear view mirror...it took me about 8 hours of install which most of the time was installing the unit into my rear view mirror and then installing an auto dimming mirror into my non auto dimming mirror.

the install came out super nice however i think my receiver is aiming too low behind my grille as the reception is not that good. i really havent had it long enough and so far i havent encountered any police running radar, but i have passed some police who have pulled someone over and my rd doesnt signal until im like 300ft away which is really close.

so im not sure if the signal is weak because he was not actually running radar but just had it on or if it just in fact it just cannot pick it up right.

but because of all the features i would definitely buy the stir+ over the 9500ci especially since they are made by the same company...all the hardware is essentially the same thing.

I more or less wanted to see the justification behind putting an internal(clean) system in place vs windshield mount. I have 9500xi red and was thinking about upgrading....Any thoughts on the K-40 system?

I had the 9500ix and Laser interceptor...works great (saved me on a weekly basis - lots of cops where i live) and I believe the overall cost is similar to the 9500ci. Install is very simple. However, as mentioned previously, I am not a fan of those ZR4's either. I just installed the smart radar from Escort in place of the 9500ix. I like it so far...the reason i bought it was because of the size. I dont have to remove it every time I park. It stays pretty concealed, just under the tint line on the windshield. it also has a very small display you attach to your review mirror, and I also like the iPhone interface and on the map you can see where the police are in relation to your position. The speed indicator is very slow though, but you have the speedometer so who cares. So, i recommend the Smart radar with the LI Laser interceptor for full protection plus Veil stealth coating for your headlights. GL

Why is everyone so anti ZR4. I have them but you just can't be 100ft from the cop when he gets you. Using common sense is most important.

My roommate has one. That thing goes off all the time, so much so that he immediately silences it and treats all signals like false positives... which to me makes me wonder why even bother having one in the first place? My V1 doesn't seem nearly as sensitive to false positives compared to his. That said, I'm glad I went with the V1 when deciding on radar detectors.

The 9500 ci is an awesome unit. I have a 9500ix in my 993 and the 9500ci in my Truck.

When the 9500ci learns ur routine, and silences known falses, when it goes off, it's for real. My CI is silent unless there is a threat. It's not falsing or making noises like nagging V1's...

Look at the differences in a receiver in a windshield unit vs a built in unit and it's obvious which one is going to function better. The smaller a microwave receiver / antenna, the worse it will perform. I like both my units but it's clear that the 9500 ci is better to me.

I wouldn't count on the ZR4's to save my bacon but it's a nice perk.

Windshield mounted units have a place in life but they are tacky and their performance is restricted because of their physical limitations.

Installation is very very easy. But be smart about mounting it properly. It makes all the difference.

In today's day and age, it makes no sense to buy a radar without built in GPS technology. Or your just paying a premium for out dated stuff...

The 9500ix has been reviewed many times over and far fewer false alarms than the V1. Troll ?

My family loved mine so much my mom went out and picked up one of the hardwire kits for her 550i. I love that thing. I've had a Valentine V1 before, I much prefer the passport, the GPS feature is great, if a little....unrefined. My passport has definitely kept me out of a couple tickets.

Just speaking from experience... get your troll call the f#ck out of here.

There's a reason the V1 is a household name in the radar world.

Ahhhh!

K40 is a scam perpetuated by "duped" dealerships. Waaay overpriced and underperforming....

IMO, if you want the "Ultimate radar and laser defense system" go with:

Beltronics Sti-R ($1300) for radar

and either

Laser Interceptor or Blinder 905's for laser defense.

i agree, +1 on the the STi-R + LI'ers or blinders is the ideal set up but your paying big $$$ for proper protection.

Doc, i'll be driving up 87 about 3 times a month and back, NJ to VT, for the next few months you'll punch holes through the ZR4s like a wet paper bag if we ever tried.
i drive by albany up to lake george before heading into VT...
(the thru way was the primary reason for the 9500ci)

but the ci comes with jammers.

the Sti-R+ is basically the ci reciever without the ZR4's.

8500ci radar reciever is not the same as the 9500ci or the Sti-R. Both the later's have the dual antenna which is undetectable and much more sensitive.
