Dealer lying about cd changer?
Im very confused here ..
Fact are as follows: I have an E90 2007 pre lci european 330i. I have no cd changer. I have the cd changer prep cable ( its green ) There is no light coming from the prep cable I want to plug in my bmw ipod interface into thhis cd changer cable so I can use my ipod up on the idrive. Here is the confusion, my dealer says he can activate the cd changer cable with some coding, take 1-2 hours for £130....he says you only need to do coding, no fiddling around with the most block. He says the cd changer is in the loom, it just has a reflector on it to send the signal back, whatever that means...is he lying so he can get the car in and then get more money from me because it takes longer? Reading on here, you have to fiddle with the MOST block to include the CD cd changer in the loom then have the car coded.. I have concluded that BMWs retrofit cd changer instructions are wrong on here when it comes to wiring up the most block, everyone who has followed it has messed up their ULF and gotten SOS messages etc. So here is the question: IS it just a case of coding the cd changer ? Is it coding and fiddling with the most block? I have access to SSS and also Autologic... What the hell shall I do...all I want to do is plug in the iPod interface into the cd changer loom, can't go to headunit as I don't have the other cable or the 4 socket housing..

I'm interested in this too, as I'm about to connect a dension gateway 500 into the back of the radio, and wondering how it should be wired and coded as it mimics a cd changer

Ok lets go into logical mode like I did with my power loss issue.
A known fact is , if you have a cd changer, all you have to do is unplug it and plug the ipod interface in.. Another fact is no matter what we do we have to go to the most block and change it around the the cd changer loom is in the loop. Now, why can we not plug in the iPod interface and then code the "ipod retrofit" rather than the "cd changer retrofit"? That way the CCC is looking for an ipod retrofit rather than a cd changer.. I am sure the iPod interface acts as a cd changer so even if we coded the cd changer retrofit then surely the car would think the ipod interface is the cd changer?

forget it
My local Indy spents hours trying to get my CD changer to work on my 335d........... gave up in the end Main dealers said they would carry out a "diagnostic" to see why it wasn't working at a charge of 2 hours labour................. £240 + VAT ............... but couldn't promise it would work after that or that it may need more time I gave up!!

Did you wire the most block?
You have to wire the most block so the cd changer is in the loop, you can't just plug it in and code the car.

I just fitted a dension 500 to my car with no CD changer
Connected up the dension loom to the original CD changer fibre optic loom, unlooped the connection behind the seat so the signal was reaching the dension unit, then had it coded with auto logic at the cost of £45 from a specialist |

plugged im my changer myself and took it to an indy and he failed then i took it to the stealers and they coded it in.
I now have a new indy who is the dogs nuts and wish i had known him 12 months ago. to simplify just plug in and have coded no messing round with wires etc.

If you have most then the cd changer wiring is out of the loop. YOu have to manually change the wires and bring the cd changer into the loop and then code the car.

Did he choose cd changer, ipod or dension when coding the car.. This is the big big question tbh.

I don't get this.
I am of the understanding that if you have CD Changer prep, to put in a CD changer, you have to plug it in, then have the car coded to tell it the CD Changer is there. What is all this about the MOST bus? If you don't code the car, it wont think the changer is there and therefore wont send the signal down the fibre. Surely once you remove the loop, that's all you need to do? As for doing a denison or other CD changer replacement device, this has been covered loads. You have to have the car coded for a CD Changer - to do this you need to have a CD changer, the dealer can't code the car for one if it's not there as the system won't accept it. Once it's coded, you take out the changer then plug in the Denison and Bob Sherunkle. Am I missing something here? Clearly the requirement to have a changer in there might be avoidable if someone with Autologic codes the car, but I've not read many sucess stories on this.

I want to add in either a Dension 500 to my car. Its got Pro Nav and a changer which are factory fit and works perfectly.
Therefore do I need additional coding for the Dension ? I don't mind loosing the use of the changer substituting it for the dension. |

Was coded with autologic through the dension tab Quote:
you shouldnt need any coding for the dension it will just plug and play. also it goes inline with the cd changer so you can have both (car connects to dension, then there is a port that runs back to your changer) |

bit patronising...........!
the two lads at my Indy both worked at BM for about 15 to 20 years each and were then on the phone to my mate Nik - who is a 20 year Senior Tech at Williams BMW............ still no joy!

No you do not need a cd changer to code it. The dealer wants the cd cahnger there for protocols I guess. He doesn't actually need it there to do the coding, just wants it there.
Ok so if you did it via the dension tab then I should be able to plug in my BMW interface and code it with the ipod tab on autologic when plugging it in the back... If that doesn't work then the cd changer tab would deffo work..

I feel so sorry for those 2 lads of yours that you're embarrassing them like this, you do realise their experience is really irrelevant and useless? Most system has been in the BMWs for not that long you know

And I thank you for your experience with it as it proves you must add the cd changer into the loop in the most block before coding it..
As I said, there experience counts for absolutely nothing as the MOST system hasn't even been out in BMWs for that long.. Now stop posting in this thread as you quite literally have nothing else to offer in this thread.. Thanks. Edit - infact it shocks me that the indys didn't know that you had to add the cd changer into the loop, thats pretty shocking for an indy.

Just for everyones reference, you need to add the cd changer into the loop correctly from the junction box and then code the car..
I have saved 4 threads on the work computer from 4 different people who have done it.. however DO NOT FOLLOW THE BMW RETROFIT CD CHANGER INSTRUCTIONS they are wrong.. All 4 people who tried it had to do extra fiddling because they came back with errors or bluetooth not working.

Some guides for the most block :
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=392303 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=376617 Someone doing the cd changer "1. Followed instructions for the CD-changer retrofit. (do a search) The wiring diagram in the pdf did not show the correct fiber optic cable connection, so I had to fool around with it a bit until I got the light to arrive at the cd-changer connector in the trunk. I can detail which ones worked for me. When you have the wrong wiring hooked-up, you'll know it, your sat radio stops working, and you get errors." http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229440 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=492766 basically you have 2 blocks in that area. The bottom is the main one, the top is a side one for stuff that isnt in the loop. Your cd changer is in the top block atm, you want to take it out of the top block and put it in the bottom block so it becomes part of the loop..
