Carbon Cleaning Results from BMW Performance Chapel Hill

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share my results of the group buy for the carbon cleaning. Car feels amazing now! Idle is extremely smooth and the car is way more responsive! I had 60k on my car when I had this done. It was done last week.

Tech named Ryan worked on my car. He is a phenomenal tech and knows his stuff. He had a e90 with mods so he knows all the mods as well as the platform extremely well. They also replaced my turbos while it was there under warranty

That's a great price on carbon cleaning. I've seen people paying around $800 on average. I just did it myself using the solvent and gun cleaninh brush method and I can say I would definitely be willing to pay $400 instead of doing it myself again.

Quick question: Do you know if Performance provides a loaner while your car is in for this service (and possibly a couple other things)?

Yes, make sure you call ahead and request for a loaner. If your vehicle is only going to be serviced for a few hours at most then they probably wont provide one. Anything over 6 hours I suspect they would give one. But I dont know the exact criteria.

Yeah e.g. oil change they won't give a loaner but when I said I also wanted them to check out the rear window (regulator issue) they approved a loaner. They seem pretty open with giving out loaners, which I appreciate greatly!

WHAT!!!! Ashley told me that he could here a funny noise on start up and had Ryan check the turbos. I was actually pretty disappointed when they called and said the noise was a normal injector noise upon start up. I wanted some new turbos under warranty.

It's all good though. I believe I still have around 30K left on the factory turbo warranty.

Just call the dealership and talk with a service advisor. Everyone is aware of the group buy price.

I noticed that as well. It seems few dealers take the extra time to get them as clean. They seem to only do as much as the walnut blasting does without using any other tools if needed, and it is almost always needed. Of course this is all speculation as I don't know them. The main priority is the valves themselves but I feel that every little bit helps. Not to mention this really isn't a cheap service and customer should get a thorough cleaning. No pun intended!!! Lol

It's due to the depth of the vacuum adapter. Without the adapter to keep a vacuum on the valves the walnut shell goes EVERYWHERE. I scrape off the majority of the material up to the point of the manifold however without high pressure walnut shell it will look like its still dirty, but I can assure you it is just a HAIR thick. The priority is the valves. I ensure you we make sure the job is done properly for the customer, and encourage them to come back and take their own pictures as Marcus did on his. On the right side you can still see some marks from going in there with a pick, almost like a dentist would. Curiosity has me though, do they replace gaskets on a $250 valve clean, or are they reusing them? With the manifold off we make sure to replace them. They may not show up on the bill as we have to do a set price for the group buy but all manifold gaskets get replaced.

Ask for Ashley as he is the main one organizing the deal.

Edit: I saw you had already come in for your cleaning and left a comment in your thread as well.

Unfortunately Ashley was unable to reproduce the noise he heard for me, and even more unfortunately my hands are tied if I can't reproduce the noise. You know I will look out for you if something does come up with them, but that day they were not cooperating. All the noises we could reproduce were normal operating noises.
