New Battery.....

So i just found out that a new battery for my 2007 E90 will cost $417???? There is labor in programming the car to the battery? Or vice versa??? I kinda stopped listening once i was told the price. I'm going to the dealership in a few and get the real story, but is this normal?

Like you put normal gas in your car, this is just a mainstream battery and your dealer want to milk you, hiding behind a nonsense registration process.

My advice; get an el cheapo 94R battery with a long replacement warranty.

What about the so called "registration" or "programming" that has to be done? I don't mind paying for something to work right, but i've had this car for less than 2 months.

Your car is out of warranty? Anyway, if you don't know how to DIY then pay the $417 or take it to a reputable INDY, otherwise this can happen to you http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=exploded

Never heard of having to program a battery. I've only had my '08 335i for a few months too, but my E46 M3 didnt require a programming after I put a new battery in.

edit: Just read the above link. Note to self, sack up and pay dealer for battery replacement.

Car has CPO to 100K or 2013 so i hope that the dealer will own up to it...oh, i did see that post you quoted and i definetaly don't need that.....

I dont think CPO covers battery replacement.

The car should initialize the new battery with reseting the batery settings with DIS GT1 tester, so it is no bullshit about programing, but it could be done by every independant shop or fellow with the software

Friend of mine replaced the battery in his 09 328 last week. It came to $323 all in. That's here in rip off Calgary!

Just buy a BT tool and aftermarket batttery do it yourself

Chriztofor, are you being sarcastic? I recently replaced the battery and it literally took me 10 minutes. In fact I haven't had a chance to register it.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Seems like you got skills.

After reading the horror stories on here, when it comes time to replace my battery I will be overly cautious and may take much longer than 10 minutes.

battery should not require replacement yet on a 2007 according to the last SA I dealt with, she said 5-6 years, which is consistent with the 325/330 owners who are discussing batteries

BATTERY STICKY NAIO!!
there's at least 2 threads a week regarding battery questions/remarks which could easily be put into a sticky in the DIY or whatever section

I bought a Deka manufactured 95 ah AGM battery for $180 plus California sales tax - Battery's Plus installed at no extra charge (took them a good 20 minutes) and I paid BMW dealer half hour shop time for registration. You could be pushing $250 plus if you want, as I did, a high capacity Group 49 AGM battery properly registered.

And guess what, the negative wire connects to the battery along cost $300+... My dealer told me that last time in service because I broke the screw on top which holds it tight onto the battery..

It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
