Morel Hybrid Ovation vs Hybrid Ovation II

As the title says is Morel Hybrid Ovation any different then its later version Hybrid Ovation II. My vendor says it is nothing but difference in the crossover (Ovation II with the heart shape big one) and previous one is standard square box shaped.

I am thinking of buying one for £250 (where Focal VRS/KRS100 comes for around £200), is it worth the money? Is difference worth the saving?

Also how does Hybrid Ovation compare to Dotech Ovation?

It worth the extra £50 definately. Tweeters aren't as harsh as the Focals and they sound nice and warm.

Not sure about the difference between the Morels though.

Afsar, did you order Morel Hybrid Ovation components (the set) or just one speaker in itself? Also... can anyone say whether they'll fit the E92?

Mo I bet you're laughing away hahahahahahha - thinking this was you a few months ago - totally confused!!

Full set ordered my friend, let me ask if another one can be sourced. I paid £260 (depends upon conversion rate also, this was estimated credit card figure, give take £2-3).

Definately. I even considered Rainbows too. I think everyone has been here at some stage, like a rite of passage!

Please suggest Morel Hybrid Ovation's crossover point with SWS-8 4 Ohms with MS-8? 100, 80 or 60 Hz?

150-200Hz. Seeing as they're SWS i'd do 150hz @ 24db

150 - 200 Hz. If you're careful you can go lower (don't play them full blast), but I would never recommend playing 4s below 100 Hz.

this is how my current L7 set as at the moment. I thought morel can easily go lower unlike other drivers, I thought morels are costly and one of the factor of high cost is this.

So my mid bass problem still remains in poor shape as si have heard sws aren't good >80hz. I thought morel will fill the gap.

Afsar, it's physically impossible for 4" mids to produce those frequencies with any kind of authority. Just today I was experimenting with crossover frequencies between my midbass drivers and the trunk sub, for example. I was looking for maximum impact of kick drums, which normally are centered somewhere around 80 Hz. It ended up being a toss-up between the crossover set at 80Hz, where the sub and the underseats were "sharing" the load, and the crossover at 60Hz, where the underseats were taking on most of the duty. In either case, I can tell you that I was pushing those speakers to their limits, and I was using most of the amplification available, just to play those 80Hz kick drums. Keep in mind, my underseats are 10s. With 8s, the sub would have had to help a lot more, with 6s it would have been all sub, with 4s....well you get the idea. The thing is, you need to move a LOT of air to get the desired impact. That feeling - that someone is hitting you in the chest when the bass hits - it's priceless!

I digress a bit but I hope you get my point. 4" mids are good for midrange. 8" woofers are good for midbass. Subs are good for bass. If you want a "gapless" system, you need all 3.

My ears are still ringing, by the way!

kaigoss69, thanks for your detailed explanation. I understand what you meant here.

Plan is to put morel hybrid in the front doors then ssmb8 underseat and JL 12W6V2 sub in the trunk (custom enclosure) to achieve this gapless goal.

btw. how did you put 10" underseat?

also wondering if L7 stock speaker with tweeter in the center can keep up with the morels. This is until I find Morel coaxial to match the door card speakers.

Don't see why you want a coaxial for the door

The tweeter pods(holders) for the doors are pretty cheap . I think I remember them being around 37 bucks US in one of the parts lists here.
For the E92 it might be a little harder to find a crossover location.

It should be fine. You can cross it at 150hz if driven by MS8, otherwise use 200hz.

I have recently installed Morel Hybrid Ovation with MT-23 tweets and man they sound awesome compared to L7 set I had, total flat response and it is blending so nicely with the JL W6 in the trunk, music is awesome now. I haven't even recalibrated MS-8 yet.

Before I recalibrate it can someone suggest me best optimised cut off frequency for Morel HO with Jehnert XE200 underseats? L7 was high passed at 200Hz and it is currently set there.

Just based in the FS of the midrange woofer, I'd say you can easily do 150hz at 24dB, perhaps even a tad lower if necessary!

On what sort of volume do you listen to your sound system 90% of the time?
Xovers are very subjective from person to person. Although drivers have they FS and comes with the parameter but depending on your priorities and on what volume you listen to them make a huge difference.
Also don't forget that sound stage get effected by these.
Follow what kaigoss suggest as a starting point and then move bit lower if not happy.
