Hard shift from 1st -2nd?
Just had my BMW Perf. SSK installed. Love it to death but one thing is kind of bothering me. I am not sure if this is normal but shifting from first to second requires a little more effort than the rest. It was like that with the stock shifter but it is a little more pronounced with the SSK since it is "notchier."
Is this something I need to have checked? Or is it normal? |

I had the same problem with my BMW SSK. From what I understand its pretty common. However I just had the UUC SSK installed and what a world of difference it made. I mean wow....every shift just thumps right in. Its a little pricey but you might be able to get a discount on it if you talk to them. I totally recomend it. I did a right up on it in the XI section under UUC SSK review

Yeah I shift towards and down. From dead stop I feel it more. So it's pretty common? I compensate buy wrapping my hand around the knob for that shift as opposed to the "palm down" style. That UUC sounds nice...but yes it is pricy
Thanks, was begining to think the guy installed it incorrectly or that it might damage my car. |

revs drop fast and there is a big difference between revs in 1st and 2nd. Try moving the lever faster. I keep my hand near the shifter so I can move it immediately after pressing the clutch. If you wait too long it is harder to move the shifter because you have to force the synchros to do more work

I have mind for awhile now and it was notchy at first then it gradually improved as I put in more miles on the car. I know it will never be as sweet as an Acura shifter but it's definitely better now. |

actually just noticed if you stay on 1st for a bit higher rpm eg 3k,the shifts actually do get smoother and feels lighter too with no lag..new problem now though, intermittently the ssk wont let me shift into 1st from neutral/stationary..man..so i'd just engage 2nd to shift upwards to 1st..maybe its just me??
