Add missing info:

-type of oil
-miles covered since last oil change
-odometer reading

6 months is very vague info!

typically yes 2 quarts is a bit much in 6 months but you need to factor in miles. if I add any oil, it's at most 1 quart between oil changes and it's closer to when it needs to be changed based on a 10 k mile oil change interval. if you don't see any leaks or smoking out of the exhaust, you may have an issue with your e-dipstick. when I get the add 1 quart warning, I don't top off right away. I wait a few times to make sure it's actually low. 1 quart low will not in any way harm the engine.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

In the 6month period, the car was driven around 6k miles and excessively hard and never over 100mph

- BMW oil
- car is at 60k miles

How many miles did you drive? Our 2007 uses a quart every 1600 miles which I think it high but according to BMW acceptable. Our 2008 335i and 2010 535i use hardly any oil between their 5000 miles oil changes.

We also have the BMS catch can's and RB PCV valves. The 2007 which uses oil, that catch can will have a couple ounces in it every thousand miles too while the other two cars just a couple of drops of oil.

its not so much how hard you drive the car currently, but how the first owner treated it particularly for the first 3000 miles which is an important break-in process. if you rev it hard a bunch of times during this process, things like your piston rings wont properly seat and you will burn oil.

another thing is also which oil you use. if you use 0w-30/40, expect to be burning alot more oil. if you switch to a good quality 5w-40 oil like liquid moly or especially motul, expect to see much less oil top ups in the future.
