e90 with stock resonator and PE or 335is muffler
Anyone out there with a e90 that's running PE or 335is mufflers with the stock centre resonator? Is it a lot louder compared to stock and do you still get the burbles on decel? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the trouble and cost of having a x-pipe welded in.

if you add a 335i muffler with a PE mod you will get an amazing sound. especially with your secondary cats deleted, you will get awesome burbles and what-not. |

What I was asking is, what does it sound like WITH the resonator in place and not a x-pipe. I can't seem to find anyone with this combination as it seems everyone either goes with a resonator delete or they already have an x-pipe.

the resonator is designed specifically for your engine and is best left alone. deleting emits an awful drone and you will lose power if you dont weld an x-pipe in place, which is not worth the effort because there is only one pipe for the res and you will need two for the x-pipe. |

I kept modding and added catless downpipes and deleted the rear cats and it created an awful rasp from 2500-3000 rpm. I had to add a resonator and now its back sounding great again. I highly recommend leaving on the resonator(s) if you dont have cats in place, otherwise you should be fine. |

Here is a clip. Only one I have found. I have modded mufflers I am installing when I change my clutch in the next couple weeks. I'll have more sound clips for you.

does having your resonator improve the exhaust sound at all? when you put the res back on, did it sound the same minus the drone? resonators are designed for your engine and not something i would ever take off. i deleted my secondary cats and the performance increase is great. sounds very nice as well and no drone! |

I have catless downpipes and just recently cut out the res in my e90 and put in 2 pipes in its place to the stock muffler. Best sounding setup I've heard on the n54 imo, similar sounding to my friends stock M4. No drone, can keep it quiet when you want and then sounds like a beast as boost builds

All is better now with the resonator, no drone or rasp. I'll try and get a video up soon. |

secondary cats have nothing to do with drone though. its the lack of a resonator causing the awful sound.

When the secondary cats were in the car it sounded fine. It wasn't until I removed them that it sounded like shit. Probably why BMW deleted the resonator with the PE exhaust in the 135i, it still sounds great as long as it's catted.

I have my secondaries deleted and the engine note is really nice. top end pull noticeably improved. the exhaust note even with the stock muffler is decent. its a good upgrade for $100 so you're saying to keep the secondaries if you delete the resonator? i think id rather keep the resonator. |
