e90 with stock resonator and PE or 335is muffler

Anyone out there with a e90 that's running PE or 335is mufflers with the stock centre resonator? Is it a lot louder compared to stock and do you still get the burbles on decel? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the trouble and cost of having a x-pipe welded in.

I wouldnt bother doing anything to your resonator, its not worth the hassle because you will get drone. you lose torque from deleting your resonator unless you weld in an x-pipe. i think its not worth the effort

if you add a 335i muffler with a PE mod you will get an amazing sound. especially with your secondary cats deleted, you will get awesome burbles and what-not.

Wouldn't it essentially sound the same as an e92/93 with the PE or a 335is since those didn't come with resonators?

What I was asking is, what does it sound like WITH the resonator in place and not a x-pipe. I can't seem to find anyone with this combination as it seems everyone either goes with a resonator delete or they already have an x-pipe.

there will be less rasp and it wont drone as much. it will take away some of the engine note but nothing major.

the resonator is designed specifically for your engine and is best left alone. deleting emits an awful drone and you will lose power if you dont weld an x-pipe in place, which is not worth the effort because there is only one pipe for the res and you will need two for the x-pipe.

You don't lose power from removing a resonator--that's not how it works

you will lose torque from removing your resonator unless you fit an x-pipe.

either way, why do people mess with parts on the car that were clearly there for a reason in the first place?

Coming from a 135i, my BMW PE deleted the factory resonator and it sounded great. However....

I kept modding and added catless downpipes and deleted the rear cats and it created an awful rasp from 2500-3000 rpm. I had to add a resonator and now its back sounding great again. I highly recommend leaving on the resonator(s) if you dont have cats in place, otherwise you should be fine.

Here is a clip. Only one I have found. I have modded mufflers I am installing when I change my clutch in the next couple weeks. I'll have more sound clips for you.

i always tell people to keep their resonator for this very reason. im not sure why the PE deletes it honestly.. also, the e92 stock doesnt even come with one. how do people deal with the drone?

does having your resonator improve the exhaust sound at all? when you put the res back on, did it sound the same minus the drone?

resonators are designed for your engine and not something i would ever take off.

i deleted my secondary cats and the performance increase is great. sounds very nice as well and no drone!

I have catless downpipes and just recently cut out the res in my e90 and put in 2 pipes in its place to the stock muffler. Best sounding setup I've heard on the n54 imo, similar sounding to my friends stock M4. No drone, can keep it quiet when you want and then sounds like a beast as boost builds

I was embarrassed to drive the car without the resonator and cats. It was honestly that bad. Sounded like a 92 Stock engined Civic with straight exhaust.

All is better now with the resonator, no drone or rasp. I'll try and get a video up soon.

secondary cats have nothing to do with drone though. its the lack of a resonator causing the awful sound.

When the secondary cats were in the car it sounded fine. It wasn't until I removed them that it sounded like shit. Probably why BMW deleted the resonator with the PE exhaust in the 135i, it still sounds great as long as it's catted.

really? I've heard someones 328i with a PE exhaust on here with the secondaries on and then another video clip of them removed. exhaust sounds wonderful with them removed..

I have my secondaries deleted and the engine note is really nice. top end pull noticeably improved. the exhaust note even with the stock muffler is decent. its a good upgrade for $100

so you're saying to keep the secondaries if you delete the resonator? i think id rather keep the resonator.

Yup, as long as one or the other is in there should sound fine.

This is BMW PE w/resonator added, catless downpipes, secondary cats deleted and MHD E40 OTS Tune. Excuse the iphone sound quality.
