Unhappy Sad times.

Well, I knew it was gonna happen some day, but now it has.

What with prices for everything going up, my pay going down etc, I've been forced to do something I never thought I'd be doing so soon.

The 330d is going on Thursday.

I know I'm gonna miss it real bad, but my situation, and the amount I'm driving, has changed and I'm forced to get something that's going to be cheaper, all round, in the long run.

I'd love to keep her, but I just can't. I'll be staying on here, and one day I will be back to the fold, might not be soon, but I'll get there again.

It's been a good 10 months of ownership, the best I've had with any car yet.

What you going for? I'd have thought a 330D reasonable to run?

Real shame Mart,& I can empathise with the pain you'll feel.

And they are to an extent. Is I had a 30 mile round trip to work I'd be keeping it for sure. But with everyone trying to squeeze you, insurance, tax, fuel, servicing etc... It has to go. My round trip to work is 120 miles on the dot. My fuel bill alone is through the roof as it is. It was crunch time for mine also, it was on 107k. at this stage its either sell, or run into the ground as itll be worth nothing with higher miles.

I've not taken this lightly, but I went for a hybrid. No tax, servicing is cheap as chips and paying petrol prices, with 60+ mpg.

I'm a single dad of 2 kids (who I have custody of), 2 dogs and a mortgage. Time are tough for me (as they are for everyone), so tough decisions to be made. You'll see me in a shiny new Beemer one day, but not today I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear this Mart1000 - I got mine at around about the same time as you did yours. I have also contempated getting shut especially as the mileage is now creeping up (though it is still within average mileage for its year).

Have you sold it already? what did you get for it if you don't mind?
PS did the remap not help on the MPG?

What happens when you compare the likely depreciation on the two cars - say over the next 12/24 months. Would the sums still make sense to change? I know its deal done and all that, but its often the single biggest running cost.

I too am interested in this.

Paying car tax and fuel is often dwarfed by the amount of depreciation that a car will undergo, but the depreciation is a "hidden cost" that people don't think about.

A Hybrid must be newer and higher value therefore i imagine higher depreciation, as above its hard to see how the sums work but obviously its your choice.

Mmmm.... the Gen 3 was from about 2009 onwards IIRC and they START at about £10000 i think. I doubt his 330d was worth £10k so that means he would have had to start by chucking in a few thousand pounds for the initial purchase, then deal with the thousands of pounds extra in depreciation - all to get a few MPG more and save £200 tax a year.

I just can't see how it makes any sense at all. And tbh, you would have been much better saving the hundreds of pounds you recently spent on your 335 exhaust conversion and remap and put them to one side to keep your car running.

Oh well, another BMW bites the dust due to, what appears to be (and i will happily be corrected), flawed economics

Enjoy the Prius, although i can't see how you possibly will after a nice BMW.

Out of interest, what do you do for work?

120 mile each day, that's tough. Hybrid? Pity it's come to that. I assume you went that route because of government incentives over a decent blue motion diesel?

Thanks for the input. When I had my exhaust and map done, things were better financially, however, splitting up from my missus, it's only my wage coming in now.

You think I like a Prius over my car? I don't think so, I see it as a step down, albeit cheaper for now. Yes I paid extra towards the prius, however, I'll be keeping that a while as it only has 29k on the clock, over the 107k the e90 had.

I've thought about this a lot over the last few weeks, and if anything big went on the BMW I'd be up the creek. The chances of that happening on another car with such low miles is far less.

Jeez guys, I'm not asking for forgiveness here, I've just got rid of a car. Not the end of the world

Sorry to hear, and good luck.

I do hope your 120 miles is stop start and town, because open road you arent going to get remotely close to 60mpg out of that petrol engine...

I'd have gone 320d myself. Ours is getting 55mpg real world since we got it, and 60-65mpg on a motorway run.
